Rare to see a bear in the riverbottom here in early spring. Normally, they use the riverbottom in the fall feeding on live oak acorns then move miles to the east into the Okefenokee pine flatwoods.

This bear may have spent the winter on my place....in a thick, impenetrable wetland area that used to be a beautiful hardwood bottom, but it's now a hurricane-damaged mess.

I got 9 mosquito bites yesterday while I was planting tree seeds. I don't think I've ever been bit that much so early. I would like to find the water they came out of and fix it. I did dump a bucket Diane left out by a manure dump.

Was about 100 miles north in south central Georgia today. There is more leaf out on hardwoods up there than there is here at the Ga-Fl state line.

We have had very little to no pine pollen yet....which is unusual. Usually in late February the air is yellow on a windy day.

Wild plums and pear trees have just bloomed this past week.

Red maples have just put on samaras so you can pick the trees out from a distance by their red color.

All this usually happens here in February.

We're having a later spring, but the warm temps have sure arrived.

If I read it right your area had more snow than usual this winter, like only happened twice in 20 years?

We never got measurable snow this past winter. About 100 miles north and west got a few inches. All we got one afternoon was very light flurries.

Last winter we got about 3 inches. Only time we've had snow that stuck in over 30 years here at the state line.

Things seem to be catching up with temps pushing towards 90° in a few days....

This rascal was 10 yards from one of my deer stands, so no hater's comments on killing the pretty little rattler.
