Got into a stink this morning. Had one on my studio site, right in my sweet spot crossing where three "valleys" come together. The problem is that's it's basically a bowl with a good line of sight from three high points.

You can see where this is going, I had an audience. To compound matters, this is a no firearms property in a no discharge city, so what's a guy to do?

Ended up having words with one soy boy. Fortunately, my guy that I answer to has my back and is going to light up soy boy and might even boot him from the property if that doesn't settle it.

Any other time, this area would've been empty, but there's a crew in there now. I would have put it off but when they call they want it done yesterday. And it didn't help at all that this one was one of the biggest and most vocal dogs in a long while.

Hate the idea of spending good money on a tool that I would never need or use 99.9% of the time.

I tell them I can live relocate all the tick biters,
possums, ground hogs, coons, skunks, rats,
etc over to their house.

They usually re-evaluate the situation.

in cases like that or even in other places (trapping nuisance coyotes or fox in subdivisions) its easier to have cages ready for critters in your vehicle and than you could remove said critters and dispatch them in a more private area plus trappers should carry a catch pole or tongs in all cases you never know when you will need them

Might be worth a shot just making your own? I made one with a one way lock. It's certainly not as nice as the manufactured one but it works. Only used it once and that was just to try it out, but handy to have I guess.

If allowed on here maybe it's time for a home made catch pole how to or 3.
The new trappers need one but think they can't afford one.

I am not saying Warrior is new.
Wish I was lol.

I got the catch pole, and I need a new one as I've done worn what I got out.

I don’t think if you’ve got an audience that they would be any more pleased with a death ray than any other means of dispatch. I agree that taking if off site would likely be the only thing that could have pleased anyone.

Catch poles and a tool like a death ray are two different things and really work best for two different jobs especially on some critters. Some critters a catch pole works decent doing both jobs but the death does its job great on all critters. I will say with people watching that dont understand a crate to remove the animal alive from the location is maybe best option.

Unfortunately, live removal is probably the only solution if you have an audience. Even though that may technically be illegal. In NC, we can release on the same property where caught or euthanize. Removing from the property alive is technically not allowed unless it is a canine in trapping season and you have a transportation permit required for live removal (live market). Outside trapping season, live removal is not allowed.

Death Ray is a great tool for no discharge areas where the potential for hostile observers is not an issue.

Build you a wooden box.hook the death ray to the coyote to remove it from the trap and use it as a catch pole to put coyote in the box.then sinch down into death ray mode and shut door on box.no one the wiser

This^^^^is the way to handle this incident. Could've even told soy boy that the coyote was gonna be released in a "safe" area.

And Georgia law requires a choke stick/device to be carried by all trappers.

You could maybe move the animal to a different part of property where there isn't an audience watching for dispatch

As far as I know, it's made the same way. Lee sold the death ray business to them and his website links to them. They have Lee's endorsement and I haven't heard any tales of a drop in quality.

Blakeley's Trapping sells a more budget-minded alternative in the Trappers Pole and I can confirm that it works.

The death ray is a great investment! Got to use a 2ft model my wife got me for Christmas this past season and it works great! No blood and very humane. Used it on coons, bobcats and coyotes.

For years I didn’t have a release pole. But 2 years ago I bit the bullet because of all the feral cats and dogs. And then I caught the same cat in 2 snares 20 ft apart. The first release took a couple minutes to get the pole loop on and remove the snare. The second time, the cat understood. Or didn’t have much energy to fight it. Now I have a release pole in the truck 24/7. It’s great PR when I’m talking to land owners. The same-cat-released-twice story always opens doors. In my experience, cats don’t pull hard enough to get into much trouble. Since I check every day and try to avoid entanglement, the snare loop is easily slipped off once the cat settles down.
