I’ve also had a Lincoln 225 AC welder for years, and last summer purchased a little Lincoln Weld-pac 90, won’t get the gas for it until I use up the double roll of flux-core wire. It works great for the smaller stuff I bought it for.

with those 7018 rods you have to clean the weld area more before you weld. it doesnt have to be clean fresh metal but cleaner than you can weld with a 6013 that can weld dirt to aluminum lol
if it isn't cleaned right for the 7018s to work you will get porosity and the weld will weaken

Yes and also should be kept at a certain temperature in a controlled environment to be considered low hydrogen.but this conversation was about just good ol boy welding around the farm and such.ive been in the welding and fabrication trade for 20+ years and when you get to the professional side of things that's a whole other conversation lol

My Lincoln 150 gas power stick welder sat for the last 12 years. Top heavy for use in the field. Bought Miller 211 and can be run off two Honda generators. Can carry anywhere in ATV trailer.

Bdaniel - Thanks for the input. I am in exact same boat as requester and very much stink at welding. But my welds have gotten me going again in a day when things break. I don't even know what setting to use nor what rods supposed to use - just try to melt some metal and make it stick.......

For 3/32" electrode, around 75 amps will get you in the ballpark.may need to go hotter or colder depending on thickness of material.for 1/8" electrodes, around 100 amps will get you in the ballpark

50 + years as a machinist, and many machine shops only have and do great with a Lincoln 225. That's what I have at home too.
