Ok I had my 11 otters tagged 1 week ago so I could sell them to Groenewold at the end of this month. When I got home I laid them on the table in my trapping shed not thinking anything about it. Yesterday I evening I noticed that mice had chewed on 8 out of the 11. They only chewed around the faces and around where the tail starts off the body. How much will this get me deducted on the price of them roughly? I had not seen any sign of mice this year in my trapping shed but I guess I learned a very good lesson to hang all my furs up so this never happens again.

A couple auctions ago there was one buyer that upped $$ on otter and he wanted the tails. What GFW does with them, I don’t know. But I’m sure their agent would dock a bit regardless of the end users use.
I keep my fur hung inside except beaver which are bagged. I’ve had some bug problems with late caught beaver that I wanted to keep inside until the next auction. I just brought them to the FHA depots freezer as I only live about an hour away from the Western depot. Now I got another freezer, but it’s usually full of bait……need one more….lol.
I feel your pain though, we go through a lot of work to see our finished product and even though it probably shouldn’t affect price, it still sucks when the buggers get to it……mice or bugs.

Think Mice are bad? Try red squirrels. It can happen fast. And hanging is not fool proof. Frame out a box large enough for your needs and cover with 1/4 inch mesh wire. Problem solved.

lost almost a full seasons worth of fur a few years ago wasnt paying attention to the fur that was hanging mice and rats had chewed monster holes in most of the pelts by the time we noticed and like yo had never had much issues with mice or rats over the years but all of a sudden i was over run with them im still thinking they came from the neighbors chicken shed after they tore it down now i always have poison out those little black boxes with bait in them work well for mice and if you put bait in jars that works for mice and rats and keeps your dogs pretty safe too
