You have to be pretty thin skinned to be bothered by comments from people you've never met and likely never will. When you join this site it's pretty obvious your postings will be watched and removed if you violate the rules. You can get removed if you go far enough. being "thin skinned" was never the issue for those who left...it was the threat of being permanently banned when OTHER members were too thin skinned or wimpy to fend for themselves without the protection of the moderators or admin. look, I "Get it"...Paul's house, Paul's rules. and that's that. but the forum has suffered because of the whiny complainers who couldn't stand a different viewpoint, strongly expressed. I came late to the TM but I have often wondered or better said confused why topics become taboo.

Seems like a complicated situation without any standard being consistently maintained and then you have obviously disturbed people posting hateful things about the country, the president and other members. It almost seems like some people are happy to see the country have problems so they can blame it on the president. It is really a shame. God Bless the USA and our president.

in short, the ones who left (and/or stopped posting) tired of typing out long replies on an active thread, only to have the whole thread deleted...most times, without a reason given. I think most of the time it is pretty clear why a thread goes poof. First, can you really expect a mod to spend an hour deleting out 15 individual posts as opposed to just axing the entire thread? I'm gonna use BC's post as an example... it apparently was recently deleted... the one about oil prices and the market. His initial post mentioned that the DOW and S&P were down for the year.... that oil was up, and that it looked like the market could be in for rocky day on Monday... now... all of that was true... DOW and S&P ARE down year to date, oil WAS up, and Sunday night futures indicated Monday COULD be a rocky day in the markets. He concluded his initial post by asking for the opinion of the man on here that knows more about the markets than probably anyone else. So, what exactly was wrong with any of that? But what followed was several pages of replies calling BC a troll and saying he had TDS....as well as some bashing the President...... interspersed with a few people actually replying with informative, well thought out replies. You don't have to like what a person says or even like the person, but can we really not reply with cognizant, constructive replies without resorting to name calling and personal attacks? Now, in order to salvage that post.... someone would have had to go through and delete the dozen or so posts bashing people in order to salvage half a dozen good posts. Who has time for all that?

"Scholars and observers worry that public debates in the United States are growing increasingly uncivil. Politicians attack their opponents, partisans report unprecedented hostility toward opposition-party supporters (see Iyengar et al., 2019), and partisan media describe the opposing party as Nazis or Communists (Berry and Sobieraj, 2013) and feature “in your face” debates (Mutz and Reeves, 2005). Concerns with incivility often pertain to the Internet. Incivility is pervasive in online communities (Reader, 2012). In 2018, 84% of Americans reported having experienced incivility online, and those who did encountered it roughly 11 times a week (KRC Research, 2018). These encounters can have negative effects. For example, the use of and exposure to incivility generates anger, anxiety, or mental distress, and can lead to aggression (Gervais, 2015) and hostile communication (Groshek and Cutino, 2016). In addition, incivility can drive users away from online discussions and lead to general dissatisfaction with public discourse (Anderson, et al., 2014; Bauman, et al., 2013; Moor, et al., 2010; Ransbotham, et al., 2016)."
Paul stated the problem.

A good trapline fills the trapper’s shed and his fur stretcher besides. Honest steel and early mornings have put meat in the skillet, hides on the boards, and gasoline in the pickup. Trapper’s perseverance has lengthened the line and strengthened the purse, quieted empty cupboards, and put the proverbial coon on the stretcher. And a full fur check in the mailbox, to boot. There are 5-10 guys on TMan who are devout worshipers of the current administration; unemployed or underemployed--some on welfare; internet forums are their primary hobby--if not their only hobby; no friends other than their internet friends; and, who cannot wait to see my posts--because calling me a troll, talking about my day job or some other boring nonsense gives them something to do. As for the thread about the stock market--most of the people who posted are not even in the market. I don't think White17 ever had a chance to weight in (I agree, he is the most knowledgeable on TMan). Keeping this anonymous so as not to flame anyone and keeping it non-political.

I would bet my pickup that the attacker is not meaningfully in the stock market--yet he derailed the stock market thread. White17 is a good dude. A huge loss if he leaves.
