Do you dye and wax/dip your drags + chain or do you let them be as is?
Trying to figure out what I want to do for next year.
Thank you!

I dye mine. Think it helps a bit with rust protection. I don't have enough pot to wax mine

I always dyed and waxed my drag & chain because my pots are big enough to hold my drags with the chain wrapped around it sort of a ball/spool. I would suggest that is you don’t have a pot big enough, just dye only. As we speak I’m trying the new Ambush dye/wax combo on my beaver traps and not only does it look & coat good. I can’t smell it at all. Not saying the coyotes can’t smell it though!!! Food for thought!

I dye and wax.

Just extra layers of protection on expensive equipment.

I dye and wax. I wax drags by just melting leftover wax on top of the water in the dye pot and lifting the drags through them. I really don't care if I get a thicker or slightly uneven coating of wax on the drags, it is just a protective layer. I have very large drags (use the same drags for wolf and coyote) and that way there is no need for a huge wax pot with vast amounts of wax in it.

I will boil used traps that did not have a catch and skim the wax off the pot and add that to the wax I wax my drags with (I'm cheap) it may have some tiny particles of dirt in it, but that won't hurt anything if you are just using it on drags. If you are going to do this though, you need to keep all traps that made catches seperate, you do not want any wax with blood, fur or other odors from a catch on your drags.
