I had to pay quarterly bills for Medicare at 65 because I did not collect SS yet.

If she is 65, still working, and will still have health insurance…

1. She should only sign up for Medicare part A. (Covers hospital bills.) you get that coverage at no cost, will pay some expenses if her regular health care does not. So there is no reason not to sign up for this.

2. She should not sign up for part B at this time. (May also be illegal to do so) you’ll be paying for services she already has.

3. That bill suggest to me that your financial adviser has her signed up for both.

4. Since you got that bill, it looks like she is not signed up for Soc Sec. The government would automatically deduct that amount from her Soc Sec benefit and not send you a bill.

5. Since she will still be working, there is a real financial benefit to wait until she reaches her full retirement age (I think 66 or 66 1/2)

6. If she does decide to retire at this time, there is a maximum she can earn each year before Soc Sec starts reducing her benefit.

7. All this should have been explained to you by your financial adviser. If anything I said is confusing or does not make sense to you, I would get a new advisor.

Medicare is billed one month in advance of the Part B insurance coverage like most health insurance premiums. It is deducted from the monthly ss payments automatically; but you are required to submit paperwork or face penalties when you do sign up. If you are not receiving ss payments, Medicare is billed directly to the recipient for quarterly ( 3 month) payment periods.

Part A Medicare is without charge, in addition to Medicare Part B she will need a Medicare Part D plan at additional cost or equivalent.
