Good stuff Turtle. Learned some things I didn't know.

One mountain survival food he didn't mention was dog meat. Joe Meek and a companion had to eat a pet on their way over the Rockies in the dead of winter to ask for help after the Whitman Massacre.

Every beaver tail I ever cut off was almost completely fat. Many of the accounts I have read talk about trappers surviving on the beaver they have trapped but I don't recall any being specific about what parts were eaten. Given how lean wild game meat is, throwing in a fat tail makes sense.

I seriously don’t know how they could stomach that tail,,, tastes gross… I’ve tried season it in various ways..
Now, the rest of it rocks!! Especially the back strap fried in butter with ribeye seasoning

And never forget the old mountain man adage: "Meat's meat".
