I want to visit Lake Superior this summer. From Ohio so I’d like to stay somewhere in Michigan. Take the kids and possibly do a charter one day.

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

Go to white fish point and taquamenon falls area. Maybe Sault ste. Marie for the soo locks.
West of there is pictured rocks best seen from a charter boat. Bring your bug spray.

Porcupine Mountains, Copper Harbor, Standard Rock, Marquette, and Munising are all unique attractions on Lake Superior. Coming from Ohio, you might as well start somewhere around Paradise and follow the shore west. Hotels tend to run near full capacity in the summer so you may want to book early. There are fishing guides all along the way but they fill up fast also.

Lots of good charters in Houghton, Keweenaw Charters being one.
Another thing would be the Quincy Mine tours.
As posted above, book early especially around the 4th.
Being our 250th alot of people will be up, my family included.
Our house in Lake Linden is already at max capacity.

My wife is an agate hunting fanatic so we visit the U.P. several times a year - mainly around the Newberry area as she can get to several Lake Superior beaches somewhat easily from that “base camp” location. Taquamenon Falls are relatively close by along with Oswald’s Bear Ranch, Garlyn Zoo, and Seney National Wildlife Refuge. If you like historical sites the Fayette Historic State Park isn’t too far - great for walking around - and Kitchen-Iiti-Kipi is another spot to visit for a quick visit. Definitely a lot to see but it does take some driving.

Lots of waterfalls to be had if that's your thing. Some are easy to get to, some are a bit of a walk.

Going to the northern fringes of the Porcupine Mountains, you can visit Lake of the Clouds. It's gets very busy however and parking is kind of limited so keep that in mind.

There's a few public beaches where you can go look for agates during the day and "Yooper Lights" during the evening/night time hours. You'll need a UV light for that though. I think there are people who do tours for that.

Brockway Mountain in Copper Harbor has some nice views of the surrounding area. Might even see a few hawks or eagles flying around.

The Soo Lock tour is pretty cool.

If you're going to stop at any of the state parks, you're going to need a recreational passport to get in. Non-resident price is $12 per day.

Lots to see but remember everything is spread out. You're not seeing the UP in a weekend.

Marquette would be a good base location. Day trips to Keweenaw, Pictured Rocks. Check out Mackinaw Island or Sault on your way up.

Kimars Charters in Shelter Bay is reasonably priced and will get you on fish.

Like everyone said, tons of cool stuff to see, but a lot of it is the only thing for an hour in any direction.

If you do this I highly recommend seating on the Starboard side.
This allows the rock formations to be in your face.
Far better photo opportunities .
Helps eliminate other passengers ect. in your pictures.

We went to Bayfield, WI last Summer. Highly recommend, really enjoyed the area. We did a charter on Superior for fishing and I would recommend for sure. Great guy, very personable and we caught our limit of Lake Trout.

For the fishing part of your trip stay closer to Lake Michigan if not in it. Fishing there is better.
