Red wool shooting bags were used by many of the Plains tribes starting in the very early 19th century. Trade wool was a common trade good, red was a very popular color. The Indians demanded the wool have a white edge, which was the undyed edge of the wool. They saw the white edge as a sign of quality.

This bag, made by me, was inspired by originals in museums and images of red bags in Indian pictographs on buffalo robes, war shirts and ledger book drawings.
