The pump is used for decanting, basically bottling, or moving to another carboy or barrel. It lets you leave the sediment in place. A gravity operated syphon works just about as well.

Used to ferment some stuff when I was a teenager just to get us drunk. Tasted horrible with the bakers yeast but it got the job done. Still make a little corn liquor every once in a blue moon.

Ok gotcha seems useful, know she said she decanters each bottle but I can see using this between two big containers

Yeah I listen to some ex con YouTubers and always enjoy the stores about how they made wine and liquor in the pen but the recipes always sounded like something you hoped would get you drunk because other wise you'd be sick ! laugh

I'll say you might as well start out with the 5 gallon carboys and fermenting buckets. Most recipes are for 5 gallon batches and simply cutting down the amounts for smaller carboys doesn't work the way it should.

Looked into it once and figured the real fun was in drinking it and making it would just subtract from the fun of it. If it was like most hobbies I figured id spent thousands of dollars try to make something that tasted as good as a bottle i could buy for $10.

I had the pleasure of trying some Skeeter Pee last summer. I'm not generally a wine enthusiast, but it was tasty.

You might want to try these. Super easy to make. They make 5 gallons and they make some mighty fine wine. You'll need the jug of juice and yeast to make the wine. Then sugar and potassium sorbate to backsweeten the wine.

You need to place an order from here:

https://doubleavineyards.com/

Their prices are a decent and the vines they have sent me have been of excellent quality. I've bought 300 grape vines from them in the last 4 years.

Looks like you’re going to need a primary bucket and a carboy.

Its something I have wanted to do from years but other than buying yeast and some apple juice II never went any further.

I plan on going to a friend's and learning about running a still this year. May get into that if it seems like fun and I get more time.
