I had a nutria shredded in a water set conibear a couple of years ago… I thought otter had done it. I’m trapping nutria in the same spot right now and I had a chewed up one today. In the conibear right next to it I had about a 15 lb snapping turtle by the flipper. I’m guessing he was the culprit. In my mind the mystery is solved…

I've had snappers work over a fish or 2 when I staked the stringer too shallow. They don't much time to make a big mess (or to bring out my inner Roy D. Mercer)

Snappers are pure heck on caught stuff. Seen them go through chicken wire to get at catfish. I used to keep a holding car up under my pier back when I ran lines. Grew to hate snappers.

I had one of those mesh baskets hanging off my dock with some sunfish in it overnight. I'm sure it was a snapper who chewed a hole in the basket trying to get at the fish in it. Most of them got out.

You know you're old when you walk past a rest room and think, as long as I'm here........
