just monitor it, I ended up in the hospital for 5 days once because I had a bad episode and let it go to long. As far as foods, none bothers me really, they say small seeds can get in the diverticuli and cause swelling but if you start feeling pain in your lower left quadrant, that is a sign of a flare up.

Nuts / seeds causing diverticulitis has been debunked by numerous studies. Focus on a high fiber diet instead.

Neighbor had it. Couldn’t eat banana because even the banana has seeds.

Truth . That was one of the things I discussed with my doctors. One of my surgeons said,” If I knew what brought this on, I’d be a household name in the GI community.”. Dude doesn’t look like a surgeon, looks like Paul Bunyan. . Great bedside manner, though ! Once asked him what the chances of removing the Purse before turkey season, he said,” Keep whining and I’ll leave it on through deer season. Save ya the trouble of getting out of the stand .”.
I appreciated his candor.

I agree. My wife has diverticulitis and eats nuts, popcorn, etc without any issues. As I said in a previous post, milk and ice cream are hazardous for her.
I have always eaten lots of fiber and take Metamucil twice a day. I've never had any intestinal troubles. I wish I could get my wife to start taking it. I think if would solve some of her intestinal problems.

When you're 20 and drop something you pick it up. When you're 80 you decide you don't need it anymore.

To each their own, every body is different. Ive been hospitalized once for a lengthy stay and dropped to my knee with infection two other times not heeding my doctors advice about seeds and nuts. Ive always had a high fiber diet without constipation. Ill stay away from seeds and nuts as these were consumed by me before each bout. I don't believe in coincidence.
What ever works for your body is the best way for you. I wish for no one to have to suffer with it and have to wear a colostomy bag for a year or life. Good health to all.

I'd trust a stranger at a truck stop over some of the advice on here. eek

I would ask your Dr.

My brother drug his feet on dealing with it and it lead to him getting a perforation (bascially it irritated his guts enough to wear through in to his abdomen).

Turned into multiple hospital stays and them cutting out ~16" of his guts. Darn lucky he doesn't have a colostomy bag at 46.

His Dr told him it all likely could have been avoided had he came in sooner when he had signs and altered his diet a little.

Too much sweet corn on the cob triggered my worst episode. No more corn for me!

GO to the doctor early when you start feeling pain, and usually a script of antibiotics will bring it under control. Wait for a few days and you are asking for a hospitalization, at least, or perhaps a surgery.

I’ve had it and it hurts like crazy. I went to the Doctor a couple of days after it started hurting. I was prescribed meds for it and it was gone after probably 10 days or so.

My grandma had this. She snacked on peanuts practically every night watching tv and was crazy for corn on the cob. Never complained about a problem and one day she took sick and had a fever and we took her to the hospital. She lost a great deal of her bowels and needed a colostomy bag. The doctor was mad at us for letting it go so long and we had no clue . She was one tough Croatian!!

Ask your Doctor, there's whole list of foods you have to avoid.

Follow the Dr’s instructions. My bro in law found out he had it via emergency room visit. It caused Sepsis that parked in his liver and raised trouble just overnight. One day he was fine the next day he couldn’t move. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital plus surgery. They said if he waited one more day to come in there’s a good chance he wouldn’t have made it. This happened in mid January and he’s better but still recovering. Another surgery in the future to remove the issue in his Colon. He’s 63 years old

My brother had a foot of his colon removed from it.
Was in the hospital awhile.

I don't know, but the DR told me that he removed 4 plops and said to come back every two years.
Well I'm not a fan of colometry's, and waited about 4 years.
Was putting Brussel sprouts in the freezer, while blanching they, I would dip a couple in butter and eat them.
Guess I ate more than I should of.
Oh did I hurt.
Went and got a colonoscopy, and the DR said everything was fine, no plops what so ever.
Every 4 years now, but I'll stretch it longer knowing me.
He told me that's the worst thing to eat , along with other cabbage family plants.
IMHO he just doesn't want to lose costumers .
I don't know anything about it, been lucky all my life, can eat anything I want.
But will watch closely how many Brussel sprouts I eat.
