I stretched all those coon on 1 dozen #4 stretchers. I'm switching this year to 2 dozen wood stretchers though. I learned some things at the fur sale. Losing 200 dollars on fur put up will teach you to use wood. eek

Wood gives you better length and a better uniformity of pelts. I don't know if you've noticed, but every pelt you pull off of wire looks a little different. When you put them on wood, they all have the exact same shape and dimensions. Buyers are looking for that real narrow nose, and 7-8 inch wide hip area. Wire can work if you know what you're doing, but wood is just so much more convenient for a consistent put up. However, if you do fine with wire, rock on! I just know that wood is going to help my put up personally.

rednecktrapper16, I put up all my beaver this year on plywood. Putting up the beaver is not as hard as most people make it out. (You just really need a sharp fleshing knife.) Plus, it is very satisfying to see a stack of put up beaver. And, they bring a better price!

We had a cold snap here in Ohio in the middle of December. It got down to -15 that night, and didn't get higher than 15 the next day. Now, that doesn't sound that cold, but I was running on a four-wheeler exclusively. Brrrr! That day was so worth it though! I pulled up to the one pond I was trapping. I had set a 110 in a dry hole above the water line, but my trap was missing! I was so frustrated that something had pulled the trap off of the stake. Well, I kept checking my other traps around the pond, when I saw something floating in the water. I waded out to it, thinking it was a muskrat. That was when I realized that it was my first mink! It was awesome!

There. Try using this button

instead of the full picture uploader thing, and then you can see a preview and click "left" or "right" to turn it right-side-up

last year I put my few beaver up on wire stretchers. and yes for sure you need a nice and sharp fleshing knife. I talked to the buyer I will be using and he said it's only abt a 1-2 dollar difference in put up and green beaver. for the amount of work it takes and the amount of time it takes to put them up( time that I don't have at all lol) it just isn't worth it to me. if I had a whole lot more time I would prob put them all up and I would makes some wood stretchers as well
