I remember dad burning the fields as a kid.
They have laws in Ohio now, you can't burn between 6 AM to 6 PM.
Don't think many pay attention though.
Ohio law prohibits most open burning in unincorporated areas from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during March, April, May, October, and November. These bans apply to brush, debris, and waste, aiming to reduce spring and fall wildfire risks, as stated on the Ohio DNR site.

Our statewide burn ban is in effect now. Absolutely no burning. It's our short season of wildfires

Do you burn for weed prevention? Definitely helps suppress some invasive weed species along with brush and trees. Fire is an important part of a tall grass prairie ecosystem, it invegorates the grass, encourages biodiversity, helps with erosion, improves water quality, and helps some animals species and benefits the system in many other ways. Naturals way of renewing the system.
