New Hunting tax: Illinois Democrats are proposing a new tax on hunters and firearm enthusiasts in Illinois.
Starting Jan 1, 2027 Illinois firearms owners, hunters, and marksmen will pay a five cent tax per round of ammunition tax under HB4414. Plus, there will be a new requirement that each round of ammunition be registered with a serial number.
That trip to the shooting range or hunting trip will soon get very expensive and very complicated.
Illinois House Bill 4414 mandates that starting January 1, 2027, all handgun ammunition sold or possessed in Illinois must be serialized and traceable by the Illinois State Police (ISP).
The bill was just introduced by Chicago area State Representative Anne Stava-Murray (D - Downers Grove). Democrats support the bill.
The bill will create a centralized registry for transactions, imposes a fee of up to 5 cents per round, and makes possession of non-serialized ammunition a misdemeanor.
HB4414 includes:
Serialization Requirement: All handgun ammunition manufactured, imported, or sold in Illinois must have unique identifiers on the packaging and the ammunition itself starting Jan. 1, 2027.
Registry and Tracking: The ISP will manage a database of handgun ammunition transactions, recording the buyer's identification and the unique identifier of the ammunition.
Fees: A fee of up to 5 cents per round will be charged to the end-user the money will go to the state of Illinois.
Huge Penalties: the law would make Possessing non-serialized handgun ammunition in a public place a Class C misdemeanor.
Exceptions: Exemptions apply to law enforcement, military, and specific authorized individuals
The bill is designed for the ISP to track ammunition transactions.
Revenue from the five cent per round tax would go to the state of Illinois.

Didn’t Chicago enact a handgun ban for most residents way back in 1982, until struck down? Wasn’t IL the last state to allow concealed carry? Doesn’t IL require a Firearms Owner’s card? I’m just fresh out of sympathy for that libtard state.

What about the ammunition already held by people? Turning ordinary people into criminals and confiscation of property.

I suspect if they pass that, they will ban reloading too, or make people pay to reregister shells that are reloaded. Adding a serial number on each round and keeping permanent records on it, will make it cost a lot more too.

Politicians, that attempt to pass a law that is found Unconstitutional, should be permanently banned from politics and lose all the perks, such as pensions, that go with the job.

My gut feeling is that lawsuits will be filed for restraint of trade by retailers. Fleet-Farm, Cabela’s, Bass Pro-Shops, Gander Mountain and a slew of others will be the first to file. Gun clubs and shooting ranges will be supportive of those lawsuits as well. High schools offering trap shooting as an elective will be in there with support for the suits too. Requiring .22 to be stamped or decaled would put a significant cost burden onto manufacturers, restraining their trade as well.

Come join in the fun....lol
They are nuts!
Some counties here already charge a nickel per round.
Teacher is right can you imagine the cost to mark each .22 round?
Like I mentioned...Nuts!
This kind of reminds of days gone by....whiskey tax, stamp tax, tea tax.....Boston Tea Party event.

There is a 10 year grandfather clause for already owned ammo.

Here's the explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bMJOx5xCIk

After 2027 I believe they claim any NEW ammo without serial number that anyone has in possession will cause a misdemeanor offense of one class or another.

I worked in the firearms industry for almost 32 years. Not sure if the technology even exists to do this.

Of course, the FOID card and all other gun laws they would like to pass are unconstitutional, but they don't care.

The scary thing here in il is that the liberal left has the overwhelming majority… anything they want, they’ll get.
The so called rewilding” bill they passed looks all rosey and serene.
But the wording in that could pave the way to make it illegal to trap beaver here.
Most farmers I know weren’t even aware of it.
It also could pave the way for the state to seize land for the purpose of restoring buffalo, elk, black bears, wolves, etc.

Stand by your principles, Stand by your guns, and victory complete and permanent is sure at last.

That re-wilding bill is accepted by the farmers here. They didn't see a problem with it and I am even and director on our county farm bureau board. Not sure what it will take to wake up the people of illinois. Add the campfire tax in there too. Maybe people will get be hind Darren Bailey and toss ol double wide out.

Back in the 1970s oregon started an ammunition purchase registry where every box of ammo had to be signed for. They abandoned it about two years later because they couldn't keep up with the registry on a statewide basis. I can't even imagine how IL will be able to account for every round of ammo.

It's Illinois run by democrats who don't want you to own guns. No surprise there.

Back in January I was in a Bass Pro shops in Peoria Ill and the gun counter associate mentioned something about this bill and I was hoping it wasn't true for the sake of those in Ill.

Every year those leftists make me happy I left that place back in the 70's . Hated it then and even more so now. Folks who grow up with those unconstitutional laws don't have any clue what the free world is like, you just accept it as that's how it is. Bunch of garbadge, I never fit in or got along with those type of people

Maybe all ammo dealers and manufacturers should refuse to sell to the government if this passes.

Glad I don't live there but we all need to keep in mind this could happen elsewhere. Elections have consequences. Vote wisely your freedom depends on it. A lot of Illinois is conservative but controlled by the cesspools that are the big cities. Many states are the same way including mine.
