The other thread about women in the military and them making good snipers got me thinking. In today’s age of thermal imagery, I would think finding a sniper’s hide would be pretty easy. In an urban setting maybe that would be different. Anyone on tman that’s been or is in the military that has sniper experience able to comment on this?

I’m not a sniper or former military but I do know thermal imaging doesn’t work in summer heat in a dense, humid forest if you don’t move. lol…..at least the one used in MSP helicopters.

I watched a video that showed it fairly easy to defeat modern thermal imaging. Even the high end stuff.

I don't know about woman snipers but... this job description was interesting and I thought it was neat when I first saw it. Imagine being over seas where our men can't talk to their woman and having to come up with jobs like this that operates "behind the wire" as a "lioness". Pretty hard core woman in combat.

Quote

Kate Mannion, known as "Kate" from Barstool Sports (specifically The Yak and Zero Blog Thirty), was part of a Female Engagement Team (FET) while serving in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan.

During her deployments, she was referred to as a Lioness.

Key details about her role:
The Mission: She worked with Female Engagement Teams (FET), which were tasked with accessing local Afghan women—a role forbidden to male Marines due to cultural norms.
"Behind the Wire": She and other female Marines went "beyond the wire" (embedded with infantry units) in some of the most dangerous, active combat areas in Afghanistan.
Responsibilities: She talked to Afghan women, conducted searches, provided medical care, and gathered intelligence in places male grunts could not access.
Combat Experience: Her fellow Marines have noted her work involved serious, direct combat situations that "rival[ed]" their own, notes one teammate.

She is a USMC veteran who joined in 2008 and deployed to Afghanistan, often highlighting this experience to showcase the impact of female representation in combat-support roles.
