I'm planning a future coyote and bobcat trapping trip to Texas, probably within the next 4 years . I'm looking for any information on the following from people who live in Texas or who have done these trips themselves.

What areas have the highest quality bobcats with good populations?
Are ranchers generally open to trappers from out of state?
What is a good way to find ranch contacts in Texas?
Would MB-550's with earth anchors be a good setup for Texas?
What are some special considerations that out-of-staters should think about?
Is February a good month to target coyotes and bobcats in Texas?

This will probably be a one time opportunity for me so I am open to any information that could help.
Open to comments or PM's

Thanks to everyone
Scott

Hate to say but I don't think you'll find much private access being a NR but you may if you're willing to pay for it.

If you can get on one ranch. Word of mouth is the best way to get more ranches.
I made one call to a rancher, and I trapped his ranch and he said he could get me all the ranches I needed to trap if I wanted too.

If you are serious about a trapping trip and do not have any contacts in Texas, you might want to go to a convention or 2. Plenty of the guys doing demos or selling in booths have wintered in Texas and may offer some advice or leads. A couple that come to mind are June and Dunlap - both hit triple digits on cats down there. I'm sure others do as well.
Good luck

On contracts maters were you are, the operation they are running and how nice they are.
For numbers it's west and south.
And there is always plenty of animals.

Loving every day as it comes.

Trapping coyotes is a good way to get on properties. The one couple I know winter down in TX and said that many time that is about the only way you can get on places with good cat populations.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
