I've always wondered about some of that stuff. I assumed it was like deer lure/urine and much of it is either fake or very dilute.

I thought you were implying the use of urine was a scam.

I see you were referring to some of the suppliers scamming folks wink

Or that is the way I interpreted it

I use plain ole bobcat urine when I use urine. It will even catch coyotes and tends to keep the deer out of my sets more so than fox or coyote urine. I can fill up 2 pints a year. I don’t think I’ve ever caught a cat that didn’t have a full bladder.

Finding GOOD urine is getting increasingly difficult.

As much as id hate to, might have to start collecting my own.

I have been buying my coyote pee the last several yrs from Keg Creek Baits (Marty Smith). He ships it and its the real deal! Marty also makes good bait!

https://www.kegcreekbaits-lures.com/

Bob Went is the King of collecting top quality coyote pee. He is 78 and still killing hundreds of coyotes every year on ADC jobs. He sells by the 5 gal bucket, but doesnt ship. You will have to go to Indiana & pick it up or arrange a “pee ride” to get it delivered. Shoot me a pm & I’d be happy to give you his home phone.

News Flash: Almost all the urine sold by trapping supply dealers is fake. As said above, its a big $$ making scam. Kindve like majority of baits & lures on the market, junk made with trash ingredients & imitation smells.

All of which are being made by people that dont trap or hardly even trap. Their at all the conventions & are big in the trapping demo circuit. Regular con artist. Alot of these guys even have videos and books out! They plagarised most of their info from people like Craig O’gorman. You can skin a trapper over & over. You can only skin an animal once.

Trapping is one of the fakest industries out there!! Beware of all the “false trappers”, aka the vast majority.

I just talked to the fella from Saskatchewan that farms wolves. He’s got a plan with Ian from Dam Beaver Trapping to supply him with intact female and male wolf urine collected and bottled at different times of the year. I’m going to be talking with them later today about their plan, as I don’t want mine cut with antifreeze or anything. He feeds them all kinds of stuff right now, but would switch over to mostly meat if he collects.

Should be a good source for wolfers.

If the trays were cleaned daily, water was kept from spilling into the urine tray, it was only winter time collected, and they were fed strictly meat, then Im sure it would be a great product. If not exactly done like that then it would be no good compared to the real deal.

To do that requires tremendous cost, time, feed sources, and labor. That is all sound knowledge/ advice from Bob Went, and you can take that the bank!

Only winter? It depends what kind of wolf trapping a guy is doing. There’s a ton of urine used for ADC in summer. Pups are one thing, and relatively easy to catch if their wiser pack members aren’t nearby to warn them. Winter urine in mid July might work on a pup, but not mom or dad. There’s a lot more info in that urine than most realize.
I rarely use the stuff as I’m not told when where the stuff came from and my personae stuff I know exactly what what’s going on with that puppy and where it came from. I almost exclusively use posts they’re already using.
But I’m just talking wolf here. I don’t dabble much with other K9.

Most trappers trap primarily in winter, or at least used to, ADC work is becoming much more common, at least in the South and East.

What I always find interesting is that dog urine from dogs that primarily eat commercial dog food works great on wolves and coyotes, yet wolf or coyote urine from animals that aren't fed strictly meat is considered junk. This may be true, I don't know, what I do know is that there is a lot of junk urine out there, and some good stuff.

The winter time collecting is essential for the pee to remain good and not sewer or spoil on you. Pee collected during warm weather months has a tendacy to spoil and sewer on you… once going bad it will smell like a septic tank.

Yes, I use good pee 12 months out of the year.

Bearcat, ofcourse dog pee from dogs eating dog food will kill coyotes.
Pee collected from a coyote eating dog food is inferior to one eating strictly meat. Meat fed animals pee a much stouter urine that is hands down superior to the rest. Try the real stuff on your line and you will see the difference.

Actually, after talking with a few wolfers from Saskatchewan last weekend, they use dog pee scooped up kennels sometimes. Even the straw bedding from the lady in heat has worked. Sometimes the junk connects and we think we got it figured out, but the real reason it connected may not be territorial or what we thought at all. Each guy has his own tricks, it’s the ones that say that you’re doing it wrong and refuse to learn or change it up that are destined for failure in the wolf game. It’s actually kinda fun and challenging proving someone wrong, sometimes I’ll go to great lengths to get a particular “stupid rookie” set to connect. Usually it’s nothing but crickets from the naysayers when the proof is shown…….lol

The real stuff helped seal the deal this morning, on the last of a mated pair in this pasture. There are a couple hundred head of ewes about to start lambing in there, in 2 weeks. Throw that fake yellow banana colored pee away and buy the real stuff. It’s what pays the bills.

I know there is a big difference in urines, Jameson's has been reliable and very effective, and consistent. That's why I stick with it. The larger trap supply places get their urine from multiple sources, so you might get good stuff one time and junk the next. I just find it interesting that dog urine is so effective but coyote urine from coyotes eating dog food is so inferior. I know for wolves I have had the best results with fresh urine from my dogs, superior to even the best coyote urine, but good coyote urine is far superior to a lot of the junk sold out there. Just not sure if it is junk because it comes from coyotes eating dog food, or because of handling, or because it is cut, or possibly isn't even coyote urine to start with. For coyotes I've not noticed a significant difference between fresh dog urine and good coyote urine, but I haven't really studied it that much. Buying a gallon of urine and pouring it into a flip top bottle and giving the set a squirt is so much less hassle that, that is what I usually do. I've collected plenty of wolf urine by scooping up snow they've peed on and used it on other packs with good results, but again, haven't bothered doing so on coyotes.

Youre right about the diet BC. Dog pee has hammered a lot of wolf & coyote. I haven’t bought urine in quite a while as it’s not my go to, but I wouldn’t buy any unless I know the dealer. Like you say, I’ll bet 90% of the stuff out there is garbage. If it’s -30 and it isn’t frozen like a block…….that could be a sign…..lol. They’re connecting out of curiosity more than anything and fooling the trapper into thinking he’s a pro, but he’s got no idea the real reason there’s a dog waiting for him.
Trappers are the easiest critter to trap…..lol.

Jamenson’s has a good reputation, so i have heard for selling quality coyote pee. I cant speak for it though, becuase I have never used it.
Your dog pee is effective becuase it is real, uncut, that came right out of another K9. It will have attraction to most any animal with 4 legs.

I am only speaking about coyote pee collected from penned coyote. The dog food pee will be alot less stout than the meat fed pee. Best analogy for that is crack a Coors Light beer and smell it (4.2% alcohol), then open up a bottle of 190 proof Everclear and smell it. It will burn your nose and roast your smeller (95% alcohol). That is the comparison of dog food and meat pee.

Use what works best for you!
