Saw this post (by our mainline sponsor) from back in the day and thought I'd look to see what the building currently looked like. Thought I'd share.

I visited the old site many years back when I was trapping in the Eastern part of the state. An old friend now deceased recently, took me over to see it. Certainly lots of history there. Talked to the boy back in those days.

Super cool!...No telling how many trappers got their start after reading Trapping North American Furbearers.

Samuel Stanley Hawbaker was probably the most influential trapper of all time.

Some of those sets got me going in the wrong direction.......I never got that chicken coop finished that was in the fox set chapter. Most of the sets were great basic sets its just the drawings didnt do them much justice.

Cool. Hawbakers was the first place I ever ordered trapping supplies from. Back in the day when they sent out the catalog and you sent in your order via the mail.

That was about the only book I could find at the library in the early 1960's
Used a lot of his lures and sets.

My favorite were :
Beaver Castor Paste
Wiley Red Special 500

Widow Maker 800

Tried others, like the muskrat, a couple other fox, but soon learned that anything that would catch red fox, would catch greys.
Back then I would catch twice as many greys as reds.
Used to keep a couple reds in old rabbit cages , for their urine.
I always was told that greys would go to a reds urine, but reds wouldn't go to a greys urine.
It's against the law now to keep them in a cage for urine now in Ohio.
Maybe with a special license you could, but not sure.
