I'm interested in any tips or advice for trapping flying squirrels. I live in a log cabin and have videos of them on the side of my house at night. Right now, they are only outside, but I've caught one inside a couple years ago. I got a new metal roof a few weeks ago and I'm a little concerned if any cracks were left open, I'll be dealing with more. I'd like to be proactive.

Well, they’ll fight to run into a rat snap. Trapping isn’t hard.

You can seal them out if you can get onto the roof safely.

We work on dozens of metal roofs for squirrels and bats annually. The problem with the metal roofs is the ends and ridge caps that they use cheap foam pieces to seal them. Over time you will have some headaches with that roofing system with bugs, bats and squirrels. Depending upon the pitch of the roof it can require some experienced roofers or ADC personnel to pest proof it with the right materials.

I have a log home also.If I didn't do most of the work myself we would have issues also.

You can exclude them easily enough if you know where they are making entry. The challenge is keeping them out and finding all the other potential entry points to stop the access.

Make a box that you can screw in snap rat traps give them a hole into the box bait with whatever past type bait you have stick the black sunflower seeds on the baited pans then load a handful of seeds in the box. when they start feeding on it its just clean traps daily. the box keeps most birds out and will slow down gray squirrels if hole is made flyer sized. You can buy the multi trap box but its ridiculously priced.

I suppose somebody should mention that flying squirrels will self evict like bats do with a cone. You can also use a 1 way into a hopper, but they aren’t especially durable. You might end up with 20 dead flyers.
