So are Manitoba marten pale? genetics is all over the board because of the re-introductions in pockets across southern Manitoba with low numbers, and yes all types above the 53 // more stable darks

Marten are not trap shy, kind of fearless, not hard to catch. Catching large numbers of them takes some traversing of fairly vast areas of wild country in fairly extreme conditions.

I can imagine that a lot more effort will go into next winters effort. Hopefully we've only just begun to see the rise in luxury fur.

What regions produce pale colours? Apparently they went for a premium on this last FHA sale. My marten will grade 70 to 80 pale, extra pale Going back 30 years. This year not one graded pale extra pale? Sometimes you wonder?

Hope trapped4ever chimes in on this one. His region, although just a short distance from me, has some wild variations in coloration of the marten. Hey MM, The usual mishmash here, but definitely trended mainly towards Xtra Darks and Darks here this year, with very few pales or extra pales mixed in. I didn't really see the price difference on my grade sheet mentioned by FHA for a premium for pales, so I guess I must not have had any of the proper lots of pales or Xtra pales to notice that discrepancy? I know I had some in the top lots, as several lots achieved that $310. I'm not going to complain, good prices on everything, so I'm currently boxing up another batch for the June FHA Auction. I'm really happy they have finally gotten their rear in gear, and are doing a great job finding and establishing a market/ buyers for us all again. Still a ways to go on some species (otters), but a very impressive sale on marten/ mink, not to mention cats, etc.... It looks like the wild fur trade in North America is maybe getting some footing back again finally??? Here is hoping we can all keep it on the right track for awhile, and keep FHA booming, along with our other various fur buyers, outlets, and auctions/ sales!!! ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289093-20251227_130056.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289094-20260310_153524.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289095-20260310_153808.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289096-20260323_135416.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289097-20260323_135523.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289098-20260323_142406.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289099-20260215_135758.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289100-20260206_170013.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289101-20260129_121217.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-11679-289102-20260125_131520.jpg)

As far as an increase in martin trappers next season I would be surprised to see a lot. It's not like trapping beaver. You need to have the territory/line to do it. Martin are lotted according to color and size. If you want natural undyed skins for jackets etc. You simply buy those lots.

Nice fur handling @trapping4ever, and quality. JTrapper regarding front legs - think we are looking at marten not mink. Partially dry marten before turning. As far as pales - we are mainly Mrd brown to dark, but pales and even true canaries or orange variations come in occasionally
Trapping isn’t a hobby - it’s a lifestyle

I think the premium is they can actually sell pales again. Not the case a few short years ago when they ended up holding mine for a few years and ended up giving them away. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-18204-289117-img_7795.jpeg) The Auctions always said they were a little on the pale side.

4ever id not be posting them pictures if the tree rats are bringing 300! Your sitting on a gold mine! What's the deal with leaving the front legs that long on the mink? Nice fur! Whatcha putting in your coffee this morning? Don't see neither mink nor front legs.

If you look at the marten catalog, I don't seem to any straight pales listed. It appears they got relabeled LT Brown?
