I planted two young Montmorency cherries trees last year. One is starting to bud out three days ago but the other has not. The one that has not is still pliable when bending its branches and it has good color but hasn’t budded. Is this normal that they won’t bud out at the same time?

Different root stock? I have 2 Fuji apples in the front yard that I planted same time and they are about a week apart at least - same thing.

I can't speak specifically about cherry trees but with my apples they may be a couple of weeks apart. I think a lot of it depends on soil temperature and amount of time in direct sunlight.

I have nothing clever to put here.

The main thing is, if they flower together. Then, the bees can pollinate if they don't flour together. You'll have to find another couple.Trees to put in that are going to flower at the same time

Sour cherries are self pollinating. I would cut into a small branch to see if it still has viability.
