Sure it's been asked & answer before. On a bunch of my old long springs & DBLS in the ring at the end of the chain there is a triangle wedge piece of metal....
What is this for?

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

I was told a long, long time ago, like when I was a kid that those wedges were used as anchor spikes. Drive them into a tree, toggle, or frozen ground instead of stakes or using wire.

As Seldom said, they were designed to drive into trees or roots as an anchor. I've never actually seen anyone use them that way though.

Super thank you. Ya probably won't start to use em. They seem extremely small to hold anything

I’ve also seen them used as a safety for one of the springs on a DLS while setting. Pretty dicey, but it certainly works.

I still have several traps with the spade anchors attached to the trap rings. I always assumed the same as some others. They were meant to be used as a hammer into a root, tree or post fastening, in some cases hammer into the right size of rock crevice.

Drive one of those metal wedges into a tree trunk and see how hard it is to remove.
