My Alaskan Grandson got a job with the USDA and Is working at the Eielson air force base. Sounds like he's hazing birds off the runways.

Interesting. One of my jobs in the fall is hazing those birds off of local ponds and fields... and into my freezer!

Every spring, just before or right at the beginning of when waterfowl start showing up, our state Dept. of Transportation plows or pushes the snow off a local old farm field. They do this to attract the waterfowl to that field instead of the ponds and fields at our Fairbanks airport. I think there are also a USDA person or 2 to haze any birds away from the runways.

They do that here at Seymour Johnson AFB too. There are large ponds at the end of the runways, and they set up these propane cannons to keep the birds away. They also drive around with a portable cannon in the bed of their truck.
