As of April 2026, activists and animal welfare groups are actively demanding that Etsy ban the sale of all animal fur products, citing cruelty in the fur industry. While Etsy prohibits fur from endangered species and cat/dog pelts, pressure campaigns urge a total ban on all animal fur to align with "humane" commerce.Current Situation Regarding Etsy and Fur Sales:Active Campaigns: Animal rights groups, including the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) and PETA, are targeting Etsy to adopt a completely fur-free policy.Protests: Activists have disrupted high-level company meetings and staged protests targeting Etsy leadership (including CEO Kruti Patel Goyal) to stop the sale of products like fox pelts.Existing Policies: Etsy’s current prohibited items policy forbids the sale of products from endangered species (via CITES/US Endangered Species Act) and dog or cat fur.Campaign Target: Critics argue that selling items like fox tails and fur accessories supports a cruel global industry.Activists encourage public pressure through social media and campaigns to influence Etsy's policy.

Read the policy in the link provided in the first post on this thread. Scroll ALL the way down to see the new part.

"Animal Fur Products
In addition to prohibiting products made from endangered and threatened species, Etsy prohibits products made from or containing natural fur from animals killed primarily for their pelts, regardless of age or origin. This includes products like raw pelts, finished garments, and accessories made with real fur from animals such as mink, fox, and rabbit. This does not include taxidermy and byproduct materials (such as leather, sheepskin, wool, or mohair)."

I won't spend another dime at an Etsy store. I'll contact the dealer, if absolutely necessary, and figure out a different avenue to purchase their product.

I will not support a company that hates us and what we do.

What if it's a taxidermy mink? It was still killed primarily for the fur.

For some reason, taxidermy is not included in the ban.

You can't apply logic to these things.

This will affect my etsy shop greatly. Volk Furs. I have grown each of the last 3 years I have had a shop. I am not sure what I will do. This will affect my bottom line quite a bit.

Yes sir, we all should. There's other ways to get items we need.

You might have to advertise someplace that will sell to us. Plus help you out.

The issue is Etsy had such a huge range of people that would just browse their site. Your potential client bas was huge. You won't get that with a dedicated website, or even a dedicated fur product website.

That is why Etsy worked so well, the customer base is huge. It would cost prohibitive to try and get that many people to visit a website that sells only 1 type of item. The anti's no doubt had a hand in this. The email stated because of their biodiversity efforts they will ban the sale of fur. Makes no sense and the people that are against fur will not change either.

The goal of us trappers, furriers, etc... should be to educate and pull in the non-trapper that hasn't been targeted yet from the anti-fur people. Visit schools, trade shows, vendor shows, wear fur hats everywhere. Make wearing and using fur normal again. I am beyond frustrated at how such a small voice has such a big influence over the fur industry. We in the fur industry are doing something wrong...

You might ask them if they are doing the same with all leather products as well.

I feel compelled to send them an email. Regardless of the outcome, they should know that the fur army has a voice in this too.
