I've never really had a desire to turkey hunt but after hearing all about it from close friends. I decided to give it a go. Got some diaphragm calls last week and practiced. This morning I was able to convince one to come in range. On public land.

Good job! I wasn’t into it. Then decided I was going to hunt until the season ended or I limited out. Killed three that season and have been an addict ever since

Good deal. So now that you've killed one, what do you think about turkey hunting?

To each there own. It's good that we don't all love doing the same things.
By the way, even if you aren't crazy about turkeys, killing a gobbler on public land after only a week of practice with a mouth call is an accomplishment. Good on you for getting it done.

Turkey hunting can be a little boring if there not responding to the calls but if you can find a receptive tom that's vocal its pretty hard to beat when they come in strutting looking for that hen and you know you've fooled mother nature. Gets the old heart beating and blood flowing.

No matter what anyone says I think turkeys are kinda ugly. I’d never have one mounted. I can see how it is fun tho and I got excited at the mentorship that was offered to me. Plus I like to eat and wanna try one.
Glad you got one!

LOL. I would ask what's behind door number 3?

Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

Lol. I might know a couple guys that used to hunt that way.
Kinda like spotlights for deer or gillnetting walleye. Really effective, but not quite as exciting.
