When I have a cooler filled with ice and dead bluegill / crappie. Always enjoy the chore but as I get towards the bottom it is filled with slime no matter how much I drain or rinse..
I was thinking of welding up a stainless steel platform of expanded metal to let the slime drip thru, while keeping the frozen ice and fish elevated within the cooler. It’s not a huge deal but always trying to improve.

I used a piece of 1x1" 14 ga cage wire and bent the edges for a 1" "leg". keeps blood etc away from your contents and ice from clogging the drain....simple and clean

I just dump the whole cooler in a deep sink and let all the water drain while I'm filleting them.

I keep them alive until I filet them. No slime.

I blast the heck out of fish with a garden hose, before cleaning them. Hopefully again within the next week.
