Mary and I are heading out this morning. We have finished 5 pints so far. Weird weather, another foot of snow since we were out last Thursday. Can't do much about the weather. We usually end up with 4 to 5 gallons.

We're at about 30 gallons in northern Wisconsin. Hope to get another 10-12 gallons before calling it quits this weekend.

We got 60 gallons of sap last night out of 25 taps.

We usually average about 8 gallons. We finished with 2.5gallons. Had two fires. Just too many things going on….. I was ready to throw in the towel.

We are pulling taps today. Both places we were taking sap were holding out for the hoped for last run, but the sap went bitter the last 3-4 days so we are now going through the week of pulling out of the woods and cleaning up all of our tubes, tubs, tanks and buckets. We did collect just abit over 11,200 gallons of sap with a decent 2.6 sugar over the season.

No, we have 4 tanks, two for the pickups that hold about 200 each and two for our trailers that hold about 250 each. Lot of trips for us and both places we haul to are quite a distance away. I am 78 the other partern is 69 and we don't own any of the 7 woodlots we tap so we are not interested in buying newer or larger equipment and or cooking any sap. This year our sap with our sugar content would have made about 335 gallons of syrup. We took 6400 to where he makes syrup for us. He gets 60% for doing the filtering, cooking etc. so we will get about 73 gallons of syrup. The other 4800 gallons goes to a firm that pays us by the point of sugar for our sap. We use that cash money to pay for labor, bottling, bottles and repairs or new taps etc. Don't know how many more years I may do this. I am hoping I can go until I am 80 or my 2006 pickup will last 2-3 years.
A guy who taps near us who is part owner in a large custom operator company puts a 4000 gallon tank of a big flatbed trailer. He has his whole line under vaccuum lines and has a couple of old milk coolers buried in the ground to fill and keep his sap really cool. When we go to the place where he goes we call ahead cause if he is full it will be an hour plus to empty.

We didn't have much sap yesterday. 9 degrees this morning and still over 2 feet of snow in the woods. I think I'll do something else today.
