Trump has taken a step in the right direction to TRY to fix college NIL mess. He signed an order to limit transfer to 1 time . If more than once the player will have to set out 1 year. In the order they also have 5 years of eligibility and that is over a 5 year period. No more 6-7 year players hopping schools going to highest bidder.

Of course the law suits will start . Bet some by people that have complained about the things he is trying to fix...

Im not a sports guy and dont care or follow this type of stuff. But reading your post it sounds like you are in favor of government restricting schools and young athletes ability to attract players and them to move around freely?

There are things the government should stay out of and this is one of them. Guidelines should set but not by executive order.

College football has went down the tubes.

A.college is a place of higher learning first, supposedly. All else second. Some kids are abusing transfers big time. It’s not just about the transferee but about the scholarships offered and have to be pulled back, shorting other young people.
Mistakes happen, one transfer understood.

Yup! When schools stop existing on government subsidies, that is when they get to tell the government to go pound sand. If they're gonna stand there with their hands out for taxpayer dollars, then the taxpayers get a say in how that money is used.

Many areas and one political side fight tooth and nail against home schooling, how is that not taking a child’s freedom as well? Open enrollment is fought too. Don’t forget those evil school vouchers.

ZIP, zero, NADA.

NIL is bad. College sports are not the same as they were or should be. My oldest daughter is a recent graduate and was a DI athlete at OU. She made a couple thousand in NIL money for appearances at events--still don't like it even though she thought she was flush. Funny thing is she would have appeared for free.

But let's stop pretending Trump is fixing anything with distracting Executive Orders that are unconstitutional and unenforceable.

He is just trying to grab headlines and shift focus. And, it works on some people.

NIL is the worst thing that has happened to college sports.

I can think of a heckuva bunch of things that need fixing more than stupid crap like that.

I cant say if sports have changed never wasted time watching them. I suspect they have along with everything else. For example I used to have thousands of acres of cola mine to hunt and fish I can no longer set foot on. Things change.

Your last sentence is where my thought went. There is much more important to be spending time on.



I didnt see the free eide money needing to be fixed just government intrusion. Then I see this and think well thats a great point I was not thinking about all the government hand outs schools get along with student loan trap students fall into. That puts a lot more money in schools pockets . Im not going to get int how left the majority of schools are and the product they turn out.

So I can get behind the do what you want as long as your not benefiting from. public funds and programs.

Problem is the scholarship is no longer a factor. Players are getting paid by the highest bidder and going to different schools at leisure. No longer amateur sports because pay to play is ruining it. I was watching one game during the tournament and announcers said guy was in his 7th season of college ball. That’s ridiculous

At least Trump is trying to do something. Dems don’t want to fix anything. They just want to figure out how they can get a piece of the pie

Can't say I agree or disagree with whatever NIL is, however will say that if a College athlete is getting paid to play at a particular school "of higher learning" that student should loose any amateur status they enjoy.
Additionally one wishes we would return to where executive orders are orders that apply only to the employees of the government where the order was issued, be it federal or state, and not interpreted as laws that apply to the general population those laws are the responsibility of legistature of said area.

I don't think there is any advantage to amateur status anymore. You get paid in college and pros can play in the Olympics.

If they're getting paid to play why are they getting a paid scholarship along with it? Find a student or several students that are good students that actually want an education to better themselves for an in demand job. Restrictions should apply starting with an actual need and again an in demand job not a made up worthless degree. Better yet spread some of that money to the technical colleges.

The NCAA is as bad as the government trying to manage something efficiently. They have sure screwed up collegiate athletics with the transfer portal and NIL. But i do not agree that the government should be involved in trying to fix the NCAA screw up.
