Have to go to plan B...on this job.

The beavers have avoided the 330 traps ..like the plague.

Doesn't happen often...but it has this time.

So the mb 750s are getting dusted off as we speak..

And getting some fresh popple at my usual spot.

Game on !!!

That happens. I took me a number of years to figure out that beavers could become square shy. I hadn't given them their dues for figuring things out I guess. For quite a few years I ran 100% conibears but finally added those wonderful 750's to the line up about 15-18years ago.

Go get 'em!

Ive been wondering when those NH beavers were gonna get tired of your exposed 330s.....lol.

Beavers in the South grew weary of those decades ago.

If legal for you I have good results with cable restraints on the runs and slids alond with my 750s. Don't have much use for my few 330s.

Beavers get educated from amateurs making sloppy sets, overuse of lure, etc.
Foot holds great tool for mop up behind those guys.
Millions of beaver taken in footholds before Frank invented his trap.

ethyl acetate in sourdough should be pretty attractive to beavers.

Hey Swamp...the exposed 330's work 95% of the time up here.

Last fall....I actually watched a beaver swim into one of my sets ...he was

So fixated on that stink stick...he didn't care about the square trap...until

It was too late.

I’m not in the Dale Billingsley camp…..those that set for beavers where they won’t be dead in a trap. I watch his YouTube stuff, but it’s not for me. So when I set up an area where the water is too shallow to drown one, my go to set is a 330 guarding a castor mound. It’s very effective, but I know there’s beavers that go uncaught because they won’t stick their noggins in a conibear. But I’m ok with that, these aren’t ADC jobs…..good to leave something for seed.

I can’t say I’ve seen where beavers avoided a well blended in 330 in a channel. Maybe some do, but I just don’t know it. I’d rather not set a 330 in front of an active bank hole. That seems to spook them up with a dead buddy jammed in the front door….and those that push past a dead beaver will often take a bite or two out of it.

I think the beavers where I trap in north-central PA are born square shy.

We are only allowed to use two 330's where I trap and I'm good with that.

I do best with footholds on drowners with snares as a close second.

I've seen evidence of beavers avoiding footholds too.

Eh...wot?

Those must be a special strain of beavers ..that can smell steel.

They must migrate from the Pittsburgh area...lol ( Steel Mills )

I learned in the early 70's conibears worked, but beaver would also avoid them.
I mostly depended on NO 4 Victor long springs from then on.
Never liked setting the lodge, bank dens , not a problem with a conibear.
Finding the bank dens was the hard part.
Mud pies were the money set for me, and never with a conibear.

Square trap shy?? Try a RBG 330. Never had one avoid one that I know of. 280's also. Killer traps. I will say thou, those 330 RBG's are the scariest traps I ever set. Bob Best built me stands for both sizes. Worked like a charm.
