Lol. Im glad my 590 A 1 has that ridiculous thick heavy barrel. I suspect the turkey gun has a lot more recoil.

I have been using a browning bps 10. I have a lot of ammo and don't want to switch yet but I like the post. It would be much lighter carrying my 20ga....

Just passin through

No one in my family has used any shotgun larger than a 20g to take a turkey. Granted thats a total of 6 for the boys one was with a bow and only a few I have killed ove rthe years. So maybe 8 total all killed with a 20.

They are a lot lighter and thiner than the 12s we have. I sure would not feel under guned with your 10. I have sot 50 bmg and 338 lapua but never had the opportunity to shoot a 10g. Talk about a goose gun and especially nice for snow geese nuisance hunts.

They'll all pattern differently, and the ammo will also affect it.

I have a Jebs in my 12Ga and actually shoot a discontinued pheasant load because it patterend the best. I tried a Sumtoy and it just didn't do as well, but I had one in my previous gun. I spend a ridiculous amount of time sighting in my turkey gun(s) and figuring out the optimal ammo and choke. Incidentally, a friend has the exact same gun, same choke and it shoots very differently than mine. Moral of that story is you should always check your own gun with your own equipment.

I never had a “turkey tube “ for my Benelli SBE 2. I shoot through a regular full choke tube. With a 3.5 TSS 2.5 oz load of #9s, you’ll kill any turkey at 55 yards.

The down side to turkey chokes are the super tight patterns at close ranges. You can miss a bird at close range because you’re shooting a softball sized ( or smaller pattern.

Without a doubt, the hardest I have ever been but in my life was my 835;and some Nitro ammo. I think that stuff was 2 7/16 oz. Or something equally insane

I’ll never shoot an 835 again. Their claim to fame was that they were the first to chamber the 3.5 “ loads.

I don’t know the design flaw, but it has the worst felt recoil I’ve ever experienced.

Try a 535 with 3.5s, they feel like they kick harder to me than an 835. Never weighed them both, but my 535 feels lighter than the couple 835s I have had ahold of, which is probably why felt recoil is even worse. But they hit hard on the other end also. wink

I dig my 535, it kicks good but i dont ever feel it always killed my turkeys at 30 yards or closer with a carlson cremator mid range or a factory modified choke.

I never notice the recoil with my 835 when I kill a turkey until I eat lunch. It's hard to chew with a fat lip.

My 535 is the tactical turkey with a collapsable hard plastic stock-no recoil pad. Used to shoot 3.5 inch supremes, now 3 inch win. LB xr. It only sucks during patterning-never felt the shot on a turkey

I bought a used 835 maybe 12 years ago that came along with five 3.5" OO's... I shot exactly 2 before it found a new home... they should have been sold with a turrent for the back of a truck IMO.

I've gotten myself in the nose a couple of times with my thumb, with my 535. Had to learn not to curl my thumb over the top of the stock like I do with every other gun and lay it straight down parallel to the stock when shooting 3.5s (all I shoot out of it). Other than that I never notice it when shooting at game, and it is comfortable to pack.

Take your gun and ammo to someone that builds chokes and tell them the pattern you want. Did that with my turkey gun and got it dialed in so good that I’m afraid to upgrade, lol. I’m shooting an 870 Youth Model 20ga with a Sumtoy choke and will probably still be shooting it up until I can’t shoot anymore. Really want an M2 in 20ga, but just can’t give up what’s been working for umpteen years. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve misjudged yardage in those Midwest states on the prairies and have made some ridiculously long kill shots.

i use a carlson dead coyote tube in my shotgun and taken birds out too 50 yds with it and before that i used my factory extra full but the thing is the ammo more than the tube most tubes will produce good patterns with quality loads but have noticed the difference in cheaper loads also lots of these choke tubes cant handle TSS as i inquired about mine and they recommended not shooting anything bigger than #7 TSS through mine i normally hunt with #6 because i have noticed i get a great consistant pattern with #6 compared to say a #5 or 4
