Dad tossed these in the back of the truck when I went to get the weed eater said some gave them to him a while back and he figured I'd could do something with them . I don't rope anything besides the odd chicken with some 550 cord when I'm a few cans deep laugh they do seem stiff as all get out though. I really don't know what I'll do with em .

Also another question but somehow end up on Latin Cowboy YouTube last night and ,does anyone know much about how they Cowboy down there ? Seems a bit different then in the states. Ropes look a lot longer and skinner and they carry multiple ones , well they toss a coil with the loop ? Again I don't know much at all about real cowboy stuff just find it interesting

Those are ropes, not lassos and not lariats.

Those 35' ropes are for healing (roping the back feet), they will definitely be on the stiffer side. I haven't watched the videos but from your description id say the style of is more along the ranch roping type of stuff. Longer ropes and yes they will throw a coil or two with the lope for distance. Lot more different type of shots with ranch roping. You can untwist those ropes and let them set a few days to relax then braid them to make softer ropes for reins or lead ropes or tie strings. Ive probably bought a few hundred of those ropes in my life.

Alrighty thanks for the info , reckon I could do that, seem to always need some kinda tie rope in the truck for gates and stuff. But I gotta ask , why the heck are they so stiff ? Like I messed with some other ropes just fooling around with a roping dummy and none of them where this stiff

Yeah I was guessing maybe a hundred also. They dont put rubber on those saddle horns so u need a lot of rope to get them stopped. And it is a bit of a regional thing. The boys in TX and Oklahoma tend to tie off hard and fast (rope pre tied to the horn). Arizona, NM, and up through the high plains its more common to dally on rubber. Then you get over in buckaroo country they talley on slick horns.

So when you rope the heels they will stand up and stay open to make a trap for the feet to hop in. They aren't fun to swing or play with but stay open when you throw them in front of the back feet.

You can also remove one of the strands and use the ropes for other things. That will soften them up but not as strong as braiding the three strands as I mentioned previously.

I use old ropes for check cords when working my dogs. Take the loop out of them and attach a snap with swivel to the loop. I can let the dog run and the stiff rope does not get tangled on trees or brush. Also a pigging string works well as a lead rope when teaching the dog to heal or lead.
