I think I will finally go down in the history books for something! LOL
I have been still hammering the nest predators on my farm prior to nesting season. I have caught close to 30 possums off of 87 acres the last couple of months as well as a dozen or so coons and a few coyotes and 1 bobcat. However, today's possum surely is the biggest possum I have ever caught! It makes any other possum I have caught look like a baby.

That's a big boy,this winter while in the almonds orchards by Wasco Ca I saw a huge possum in that size your showing.Easily twice the size of anything I'd ever seen before.

I have killed some big ones but never measured or weighed any.

That is definitely on the far large end of the scale

A few months ago he was even heavier. He burned up some fat holed up during the coldest days.

I still have the ugliest opossum trophy !

You would have to check your regulations. Kansas finally got smart and allows for coon and possum trapping year round if you are so inclined. You are restricted to cage traps and DPs after the close of the normal trapping season. Cage traps are my preference for possums. Though I catch a few in DPs my catch rate in cages is always higher.

Caught a huge one early winter in a crab pot, going in for a smaller, probably female, in the same pot....a light cream colored brute, biggest I've ever seen....I had to cut the pot to get him out.....no idea how it fit, lol.

If you are trapping them year round, I'd use live traps. They eat just about anything. I had a possum problem this past year and used live traps with marshmallows for bait. Cat food works even better.

in WI we can trap as land owner or agent of land owner year round basically anything that doesn't need a cites tag.

you have to have written permission with a set start and end date and the species targeted

it doesn't say you can't make the start date the first day of non season and the end date the last day of non season.

and you can list everything you could possibly catch and toss in any other unprotected species.

I end up shooting in buildings so my worksheet for what and when I can trap on private for nuisance includes permission to shoot in and around buildings including their primary dwelling.

now I am not going to chase a coon in their house and shoot it on the kitchen floor but technically they gave me permission to in writing so that if they holler about a coon at their back door and I take it out I am covered.

I did not. I dont have a suitable scale for weighing something like that and I really didn't want to haul it around on a warm day in the back of my pickup.

Friend caught a 20 lb. Possum in his neighbors barn, several years ago. Biggest I've seen.

Never weighed one, but you can catch unlimited numbers of them around here and never make a dent. I catch them all sizes.
My best attractant is a well made fox set

I'm convinced a possum will walk three miles out of its way to mess up a good canine set.
