I’ve used some of my beaver tails for ice fishing and they actually work pretty good, but I’d like to be able to store them for a long period of time til next season. Is there any kind of liquid I can keep them in and in small jars? I was going to try fire brine but I’m not sure if I can keep the chunks in there for that long of a period. I have plenty of beaver tails also so I’d like to make extra so I can give to family and friends.
Pretty much what I’m looking for is me being able to keep these beaver tail bites in a small jar/container with liquid in it so that you just have to bring this small jar out on the ice with you, or even in the spring and summer for panfish. I don’t want to freeze them until I fish or anything like that. I want to keep these on my shelf or tackle bag

What did they use for pork rind strips?, should work for your tail strips. Those little jars lasted forever, probably a brine...but I never tasted it, lol

Gave a half of a tail to a fishing friend last year....he ice fished with it and caught perch and pan fish and used it as a trailer on his spoons and caught musky and pike.
All he does is throw it back in the freezer for next year...thaw it out cut slices and go fish.

Salt brine.

Now figure out a way to dye them and actually get them to hold color.

I cut long “crawlers” for pulling behind spinners and such. Works good. And keeps the trash fish catch down it seems compared to real crawlers.

Beaver liver works good for catfish on our river. Never tried tails before.

All I use anymore for ice fishing walleyes

The best way I've found to store it is to go catch a beaver when I need some.

I've had fried beaver tail fat that had been sliced like bacon. Tasted sort of like old, rank, freezer burnt bacon; once was enough.
I imagine it might make into a good fishing bait though.

Infuse them with that fishy fresh scent, and flavor.

Why not just store them in a bag of salt? Once in the water they'll rehydrate. I am sure a saltwater brine would also work but straight salt just seems simpler.

Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait
