For simplicity I just recorded the blanket gd dmg for those sales. Usually from 600-1800 pelts per sale.

And if you're thinking "this guy must not have anything to do" you'd be right: It's pouring outside right now.

Do beaver pelts travel through the Strait of Hormuz?

I don't have any stakes in the marten comings and goings. Good luck to those that do!

I think in this past decade of fur market, by the time you see the increase in the market the demand is over. I wouldn't bank on $43 hatter beaver next March auction

Gotta live up to the nickname...

From your graph peeler, it seems when a major war/conflict happens it's time to trap beaver.

You are correct, especially if you live in the southern US.

I think it is pretty obvious that it isn't just the gd dmg grade that has been being taken by the felt industry these last years. If it is as Boco has it that the regular fur/sewing trade takes most of the garment grades, well, maybe this time around the gd dmg section pricing will last a little longer. Do I trust that to happen? HECK NO!

But if I lived in the south I would be pokin' holes in the backs of those beaver to make sure they go into the gd dmg bins. grin

They did away with those grades and put them into gd dmg at least 15 years ago....maybe longer. I'm thinking there was a realization that no matter how bad the dmg in beaver they still had value for the felt trade.

The 3 and 4 is where the summer nuisance beaver went. They would sell for around 15 bucks back in the day.
We used to skin nuisance beaver and turn them in to the council to sell. The council made some money to administer the nuisance beaver programs.
When they went down to 3 and 4 dollars the requirement to skin was dropped and only tails with a strip of fur was required for confirmation of kills.
So I guess the auction doesnt get many if any summer beaver anymore so no need for separate sectioning.

FHA was dead-on with some of its predictions for this last sale, but they sure were wrong about hatter beaver. Last June when they went for $16 (blanket hatters) we were told that's the price levels where they should be and to expect that for the near future. $43 must have really been quite the surprise last month.

Thats where they should be in the fur market.
Felters show up and compete once in a while dragging up the price of the lesser value beaver sporadically.(not complaining)
There are no felters as far as I know at the fur fairs which the auction stays in tune with to see what is being manufactired and sold to guage the fur market futures.
70-90 for the good big garment beaver is in the ballpark for those.
100-120 would be better.
