Like most of you I'll be targeting mink and hope the prices hold. I'm confident in trapping mink but I have never used a mink lure at a set most of my sets have been blind sets bottom edge and a few baited pockets thrown in. Thanks for your comments.

Turtle, when you say weasel lure do you mean a lure made to attract weasels....or weasel musk itself? (Or both).

I never used mink lure, just bait. I guess It wouldn't hurt in a pocket or cubby if I didn't have bait. The mink would probably be at the trap by the time it did any good anyhow (not sure how well they can pick up scent), Never tried it at blind sets either so don't know if it would do any harm-- it may disrupt his gait and miss the trap entirely.

I've caught 2 mink on a muskrat lure that had muskrat glands as well as other ingredients in it.

I don't use a lot of it, but a good lure can't hurt anything. I think using lure gives some guys extra confidence in their sets, and that's a good enough reason to use it.

I invented an absolutely deadly mink lure about 5 or 6 years ago.
Two common ingredients and a base with one secret ingredient.
I dont want to divulge the secret ingredient because someone will steal it and make a bunch of money off it.

I know nothing about mink but I sent a coyote lure to a guy that had a decent mink population. He but the lure out in front of a camera to test it on coyotes. It wasn't on a prime mink location but got video of several different mink working the set. He said I should market as a mink lure too.

a skinned half a muskrat is a good mink and muskrat attractor before freeze up
Grouse scraps are an excellent mink bait before deep freeze. And unlimited supply in the fall.

For sure. I have seen where a mink was traveling a high bank trail and turned directly above my pocket sets (there was snow on) and went straight down and got caught. He had to smell something. I think they use their nose a lot more than people give them credit for.

I caught a lot of mink in Southeast Alaska, and when I used a "lure", sets that previously caught an ermine or another mink was a great attractor. And where I trapped, (coastal areas), there were a lot of mink.
They would get into sets made for marten, (climbing mink), baited with beaver meat, wolverine cubbies baited heavily with beaver, breasted duck carcasses, moose and deer bones, you name it, and lure was Gusto.
I think bait is much more important than lure for mink sets that are not blind sets. And keep it fresh.

Just doing what I want now.

Mac, we'll have to go to the FHA convention next January with a bottle or two of Eau Du Musc Beaver whiskey and loosen up his tongue.

We need more americans at the convention again. We have lost a few good long time friends from the states last few years.
Used to be lots from all over back in the day, even yearly attendees from Texas.
Probably more trappers back then than today.
We sure had a lot of fun down at the Sweetwater on Friday Night..
