Welp did a lil testing in between other projects.

My new manuals had higher velocity start loads so decided to check the old ones in the collection

The Serria had one for AA4350 and H380 I had a can of both I don't really use so said why not
[Linked Image]

Didn't have the highest hopes for 380 since it's a ball power and there was alot of case space ....those two things usually dont equal a good shooting round in my experience
[Linked Image]

Newstar line brass that 115gr HPBT from PPU ( kits ment for 6.8 SPC but .270 win and 6.8 both use .277 bullets ) white river primers .003" off the lands

And the set up. It's hot , the barrels is gonna get hot and probably open up a bit so said I'll just do three round groups of the starter loads . All I care about is keeping it under 2" and light recoil so don't see any need for messing with powder , probably will only get worse with more powder

100yd 1" Red Bull
[Linked Image]

Zeroing looked like it would be promising ,load wise with two touching after an adjust
[Linked Image]

But this is why we verify
[Linked Image]

Recoil was pretty pleasant like mild .243 but groups where ...meh and velocity was actually much slower then expected and s-d of 80 fps sick
[Linked Image]

So 380 was out figured I'd try AA4350 with is a stick powder and those usually seem to work better with light loads
Case fill looks a lot better
[Linked Image]

Recoil was about the same as the last load but more of a push less of a snappy deal .
Definitely shot better wan was more consistent but the gun obviously doesn't like the chrono being strapped on or being shot hot
[Linked Image]

And again lower velocity then what the book said but hay I'm not complaining
[Linked Image]

So yeah definitely not great but it's usually for every she's gonna do with it which is shoot cans and slap steel 90% of the time .
Was able to brain the gopher target repeatlly with this load so I'll call it good

Have a feeling things will get better with the new stock and scope next month but we will see . Anyway know there's a lot of .270 fans and some of y'all like reading my ramblings so

Pretty cool your figuring out a way for your bride to shoot an old family gun. I have been giving some of our family guns to kids and grandkids. Dont want there to be to much fussing when I tip over. Once she gets used to shooting it, one two shots with a 130 grainer at 3000 FPS should be manageable if you take her on a western mulie hunt.

110 gr hornady hollow points, aa max load of IMR 4350, IIRC its around 58 gr. used that load on deer for years.

I've been loading for 270 for over 40 years, for 3 Ruger 77's and one Remington 7600. These rifles preferred IMR4350 or H4831SC.
I ran the loads at 2950 using Hornady 130 Interlock bullets, my son like tge Hornady 140 Interlock BT (of course he had to be different).

Your rifle looks like a Weatherby "Camilla", lightweight. How does it handle ?
