I always enjoyed working with Tankie crews in Dow when the Dow Owners Rep requested me rather than me place contracted welding inspectors on their prjs. Hard working erectors and good quality welding bunch that I had great respect for. Our storage tanks were built to the same API specs as those you see in the photos just not as big. Biggest we did in Dow were a couple of million gallon ones. By API Code, the welders (downhillers) were only allowed 1/64” undercut on vertical welds and 1/32” on horizontal welds!!! Yup, it was measured, no eyeball close enough was good enough!! The spherical tanks are for the “hot stuff”. Serious work!

As a curious and meaningless side note that most would never think of or about. How many of you would understand how hard it is to hit a softball from inside a million gallon tank up over the tank walls? LMAO! Dang hard to do believe me!! LMAO!
