Purchased one of these last week. Finally got some wire and tried it today. This little green welder makes me look "almost" like a pro welder. Very little spatter and easy to make a decent looking weld. Rheostat current adjustment. I guess that's the difference using DC current. Paid $119.

My other welder is the Chicago Electric Flux Core 90. Have had it for years....spitting and spattering mostly ugly welds. It's AC current and only a high-low current adjustment.

That's what I mostly weld...trapping stuff, deer stand repairs, etc.

Now, working on another dozen rebar drowning rods and making the square tubing slide locks.

Just converted 3 tall 280 support stands to 330-size yesterday.

Interesting! Been looking at some new welders either an inverter stick or a flux for when I cant have my bottle for my gas rig and was looking at the green machines..might get one now ...though I do like the versatility of a small stick with a few different rods

Do you think you would get decent penetration on something like 3/8 plate with something like this?

I looked at dozens of reviews before I bought it. You have to dig to find a negative...even from pro welders.

It runs hot. Even though it's 110v powered it seems to focus heat at the puddle very good. You can tell by the sound of the weld that it's doing it's job and it relatively easy to weld smoothly. I'm impressed by the lack of spatter, but I'm using some wire I bought at a welding supply (the brand is Washington Alloy E71T-GS)...not the HF Vulcan wire and I try to maintain a 1/2" or less wire stick out.

But, I haven't welded anything thick, other than large hex nuts on the top of 1/2" rebar for stakes.

Now y'all have me thinking on one. I miss having a welder. Had a miller for many years but I finally gave up on keeping it going.

I wondered how those would be. I've got a Hobart 140 (110 AC) flux core wire feed that I've used for twenty years. Just replaced the liner and the trigger on it and it is feeding good and welding with very little splatter again. It was working about like your old one before I did that. And I have a big stick welder that is practically an antique, bet it weighs over 300 pounds. I would like a gas wire feed for inside the shop, but I weld more outside than inside and gas is useless if there is the slightest breeze.

I need to learn how to weld,,,
I know practlly nothing about it.
Would this be a good thing to start learning?
Does this need a tank of oxygen??
Or does this just plug in and rock n roll??

Oxygen is a mortal enemy to the welding process. An inert shielding gas is designed to keep oxygen away from the welding process. Typically these would include co2 or Argon mixes. I would suggest a class at the local college or somebody willing to teach you. I was a certified welder for 43 years.

Flux doesn't need gas. The wire with core does what the gas does in mig or TIG . I'm learned on flux then stick . Happy i did life got nothing but easier. Had guys in class talk about how great they where but couldn't weld when the machine wasn't a tuned mig. They made us watch this guys videos in class . Really good easy to follow and informative

I'm like John a complete ROOKIE when it comes to welding...question... does the unit throw your breakers on your house panel?
Does a guy need to have a different panel installed?

If you've got 20 amp breakers it shouldn't throw them, unless the circuit is way overloaded. I've never thrown a breaker with my 110 welder and I've plugged it in all sorts of places. Possibly if you have 15 amp breakers like some old houses do, it might throw them? I've took mine to other peoples places and plugged it in without ever thinking about or asking how big their breakers were and I've never had a problem.

I do have one..it's still in the box though, keep meaning to pull it out but my welding needs are few...it was on sale cheap a few years ago, I figured why not...

But I would like to use it build experimental, skiff size, crab, scallop dredges....not sure if it can handle 1/2" rod...??? Not sure I can handle the dredges any more, lol

I took my little Lincoln wire feed to our camp in Canada during our build. Hasn’t made it home yet. For that price I might just get the HF one for home and leave the Lincoln up north. I’ve got a big Miller in the shop but love the little ones with flux core for outside when windy or pairing with generator for welding down at the river.

You get better penetration with flux core versus gas shielded but you don't have a large enough duty cycle on these small welders for bigger jobs

Duty cycle is 30%. So, can weld 3 minutes and let it rest for 7 min. 3 minutes is a long weld on small stuff. Also, duty cycle is based on running it full power.

I have 20amp breakers. I run it on one that don't have much else on it. Haven't tripped it yet.

I did make one mod....I swapped out the grounding clamp with a little better one (a HF $6 version with copper contact.
