Anyone ever use latex paint, or food coloring to color cement?....need to make a heavy patio umbrella stand and thinking a color might be nice....not for me, but for Miss Daisy....a bag of sakrete is about 5.50, want to do this cheap as possible, lol, otherwise gray is fine!... grin

The ready mix plants might have some actual concrete color left over from a different job. Not sure what the cost would be but it shouldn't take much. Worth a phone call though

I have not had any experience with the process. I was interested in what you are doing so I took a look at using food coloring. It said to mix the food olor in with your dry cement and then add the water after you have it mixed up.

I had a friend do just what you are considering, using blue food coloring. He put it in a 5-gallon bucket with about a gallon of water and an entire teardrop shaped little squeeze-bottle of dye. Mixed it up with a scrap of 1x2 and then mixed a couple of 40# bags of redi-mix. It turned the concrete dark blue, alright.

Just doing what I want now.

Can you still buy it Lugnut? Back in the 80tys we used to buy it in 25# boxes of #1 lb bags.
we mixed a bag of dye to a bag of type n. Now we pay $18.00 for a bag of colored mortar, with a 15 bag minimum.

It's still available at masonry supply places around here. It's available online too but I don't want to know what shipping might be for larger amounts.

A 94 lb. bag of regular Portland cement is $18-$20 anymore.

Eh...wot?

What brand jarentz?

Used to get Medusa, Cem-ex,
Lampas, and one other from Wampum
the name escapes me.

Family retired from Penn-Dixie
if anyone remembers them.
Now Armstrong. No color there.
