Two years ago when I went back to Indiana I picked up as much basswood as my little Toyota would carry. I had the guy cut me some 1”x4”x8’ to build some wolf boards. I planed them last year with the rest of the basswood that I was using to make cat, coon and coyote boards. But never go around to building the boards. I finally got after them and finished them up today.

I used the NAFA solid board dimensions but made them adjustable. That’s why they taper to the bottom so when they are 13” wide at 48” they’re also 13” wide at the bottom. I ended up making five plus a pine template.

Very nice. Back in the late 70s, when coyotes were big bucks, I made similar for song dogs. Loved adjustable stretchers.

Just doing what I want now.

Those look great. Really like the tail piece too.

I hang my boards upside down from the ceiling. I have 12’ ceilings. The tail piece lets me tack the tail so it doesn’t flop down while the hide dries.

Tail piece is awesome! I love splits for wolves and it’s all I use, but that’s where the solid boards are nice, the tails. I’ve got a bunch of different sized rough cut basswood for boards a couple months ago. Going to see if I can incorporate a tail board in mine…….if I ever find time.

That was my issue. Not making time to get some of these projects finished up. Those wolf boards had been leaning against the wall as 1x4s for too long.

Here’s my ceiling hanging setup. It uses unistrut and pipe clamp halves.

You let those "wolves" hang too long... they appear to have turned into coyotes!

grin

I should have washed them in cold water. I think the hot water made them shrink.
