What is a budget minded 4 wheeler nowadays? I'm needing one for the occasional deer, hog or firewood getter. Must be 4 wheel drive. But not with all the add ons. Not looking for massive power. Just to get from point A to B.
What is a decent price?
Thanks, Sarge

I just had a 2008 Polaris 450 H.O. with 820 miles given to me. It only cost $1,400 to get it running good. I have no idea what they are worth.

I worked at a kawasaki, suzuki dealer years ago so I tend to like those. Suzuki eiger 4x4 are good. The old lt4wd king quad 4 wheelers were ok, very slow and had some fuel pump issues. Around here they go for $800 and up depending on condition. Eiger will be more but a better machine.
Kawasaki , made 360 400 and 650 prarie. Just look up the reviews, newer ones had some belt issues with the sensors. Older ones don't have that junk on them. My dad has an 02 prarie 650 and has never done anything but spark plugs.
Dont buy a Polaris, especially an older one. I wouldn't take one if it was free. Junk.

Find a 2002-2004 Yamaha 450 Kodiak. 4x4, plus differential lock, plenty of power, no electronic issues.
You should be able to find a good used one for 2K or so.
I own six of them.

An old Honda fourtrax 300 or the honda 350 Rancher with foot shift. I am a honda guy everyday and twice on sundays. I have a 2001 Recon that has been ridden hard stored outside its whole life till recently. Hasnt been started in 5 years, if i clean the carb and charge the battery it will fire up and run.

I second the Honda Fourtrax 300. I have a 1996 model I bought new and it takes a licking and keeps on ticking (nothing but routine maintenance) I also have a 2023 Honda 520 Foreman nice machine but not a budget bike for sure. I have owned Honda atvs since 1985 and have no complaints. I picked up a 2003 Suzuki Eiger 400 because I got a really good deal on it so I could have an extra atv around the house and I will say I did more work to it than all of the Hondas I have owned combined.

Honda rancher trx350 manual shift or fourtrax 300. I don’t know much about other brands/models but I know those Honda models are tougher than a hammer and almost always start/run good.

Swamp, the wallet is a little thin lately due to vet bills.
How much is one of those SxS?

Do a little searching if you're wanting a used one. Craiglist, Marketplace, etc. And sometimes the SxS dealers will have great condition used ones from trade-ins.

Cuz bought a Honda 700 SxS at a dealer for $7000. It was 2 or 3 years old but great condition and they included a warranty.

New one gonna run you about $13 or $14 grand.

Have you seen the new Honda Pioneer coming out this year, you can get one with a factory hard cab and factory heat and air conditioning. Definitely not a budget ride as my local Honda dealer expects the price to be around 30k.

Depends on if you are buying new or used. I have a 2004 Polaris 600 that has 12,000 miles on it. It is still my work horse. Runs good but looks like heck and probably not worth much. I also have a 2017 570 Polaris sportsman I use for trapping and hunting when it gets cold. That one has EFI so starts better in the cold. New they are about $8000 I think. Nothing is reasonable anymore. I think you can get a newer used model that don't need much work from $3500 - $5000.

Hondas are bulletproof, others may be more comfortable and better at different things, but you just can't kill a Honda. I would steer clear of the electric shift myself, they are actually pretty reliable, but not as reliable as the foot shift, and if you are standing up leaning forward, riding up a steep hill, when you hit a bump you are real bad to bump that shift button. You can end up going for a ride down the the hill, backwards, when that happens. After Honda, I would choose any of the other name brands except Polaris. I've ran Arctic Cat for the last 25 years, they work the best for what I use them for, but if I just needed a fourwheeler to put around on like you, I'd be looking for a Honda first.

We have 2-2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660s. Bought them new. Still running strong.

All woods use, not babied. Crawled through clear cuts, winched through mud and snow, drug logs and lots of dead deer out.

Zero complaints.

Probably more motor than we need and could have gotten by with Kodiak 400 but ground clearance is nice.
