Opening day here in MO. Son and I went to one spot. Very little gobbling, tom 500 yards away gobbled some, swung around closer, set up, never heard him again. Came home and went in back of the house. Set up/called, moved 250 yards sat and called, 250 yards more sat and called (a little windy). Was getting ready to call it a day when this one showed up 25 yards out. Son shot him. Pretty thin beard but 1.25" spurs. Biggest based spurs I have ever seen. Will try to get a picture later.[Linked Image]
Picture is a little off. Bases are about 1" wide. Wider than the leg. Both kind of bulge out.

Sounds like a fine hunt.
I found me a dumb Missouri gobbler this morning as well. Came in on a string shortly after flydown. Double beard.[Linked Image]

Good deal. Might be the most greened up/leafed out beginning of the season.

Congrats fellers.
Dang nice birds.

I'mat a friend's place in Dade county. In SW Mo.
Haven't heard a bird, saw 1 hen yesterday morning and nothing today.
I have only heard 1 shot so far.

Turkey hunting gives you buck fever more than deer hunting.
Love turkey hunting, it takes time to get it right, but there's so much to learn and to avoid while hunting.
A gobble in range stirs the heart into overdrive.
