Okay someone school me on the granola wagon. I'm shopping around for a work vehicle and want something that can do light offroad, don't need the full size truck, and ideally something that isn't dealer prone with "issues" and can be kept up and running by this parts swapper without needing an electrical engineer to diagnose.

Not really been a jeep fan since the wrangler showed up, but then I've never been one to accessorize my vehicle like the ladies do their purses. The 5 and 7 were beasts, though.

Jeeps are like the Keltech of the auto market.

good concepts , not very well executed

every once in a while they get something decently right but usually under built so it has weaknesses and breaks under heavy use.
most people never heavily use their jeep , if they do they get good at fixing them and adding aftermarket parts.

they sell the offroad image and with the rubber ducks a fun community that encourages sales not based on a good product.


unfortunately just about everything now takes a computer and scope and a lot of diag time to follow and find electrical issue and everything is electrical even things that didn't need to be.

I see a bunch of the Jeep pickups running around, sort of a midsize truck....price is better than full size trucks, probably heavy duty enough, still kinda fugly looking, lol

I thought I read there was some strength problems in the frame, but not sure....bed is still kinda small, but big enough for most folks I guess....I think a couple guys on here have one....Talk to Danny C

The JL's came out in 2018 and by 2022 Jeep had the bugs worked out. The Willys version is supposed to be the sweet spot, not as rough a ride as the Rubicon or as tough, more capable than the Sport. I'd stay away from the boosted 4 cyl. The 3.6l naturally aspirated V6 is a better engine option and can be had with a standard transmission (6 speed).

The duck stuff is stupid IMO. I won't have anything to do with it.

I know 3 people with newer grand Cherokee. 2 have transmission issues.

My jeeps have a carburetor.

The 3.6l jeep engine is notorious for the needle bearings in the roller followers failing and chewing the lobe off of the camshaft. And the oil filter housing/oil cooler assembly leaks oil into the valley on everyone of them. Both are when not if problems.

I love the handyman jack mounted on the hood right in front of the windshield. What could go wrong there?! And the snorkels are so cool and realistic!

My wife drives a Jeep Gladiator and loves it.No ducks.

I think its real cool how you can take the doors off and drive down the street with a leg dangling down toward the street. And the empty Jerry Cans on the backend are cool too.

I still think it is the better option of the two. My 2017 JK had the plastic oil filter/oil cooler problem. My mechanic replaced it with a metal version. I don't know if they are still using the crap plastic version in the later models. I ditched the 2017 after the 5th time in 6 years that a brake caliper locked up. One time each for 3 wheels and twice for the 4th. Just couldn't trust it.

No ducks, but I do have a rubber Jesus in the Subaru.

Mines an ‘89 with the 4 cylinder. 5 speed manual. No ducks as it’s definitely not a looker just a beater. Doesn’t even have doors and basically just a top over the head area. Gets a little cold checking traps.

Had a 1980 CJ 5. Bought in 1983 had rust issues by 86 2 water pumps replaced 1 clutch… not as reliable as my older yotas. Not much room in the back but roll bar was for parking with girlfriend….
