Many rough folks live on the hill too 'round here....not just in the bottoms.

Bottoms round here is cheyenne bottoms, biggest inland marsh in the usa. All the ruffians live south of the tracks

We had the quarters where I grew up.

Most of the rough spots were on the hill, or was a camp.

Springdale had the Flats.

Hamilton has the Knob.

Cincinnati had Over The Rhine.

Dayton had the West Side.

I think most places that are even marginally big have a bad neighborhood. Lately, often the gays move in and gentrify a lot of those neighborhoods, causing the property values to soar, forcing the poor people to move to the newest crappiest place.

We had "Sin City" where the crackhead black folk lived and "Ignorant Ridge" where the white meth heads lived. Our bad neighborhoods were segregated. lol

We had “Goat Hill” inside the City Limits until Dow bought’em all out and built their Corporate Center affectionally(tongue in cheek) called the “Pink Palace”. The families(clans) that had been bought out moved out into several townships scattered throughout the County where some land was selling for less than $50/acre at the time. The home rebuilding didn’t change the culture, that mostly started to happened in the late 60’s and the few dirt floors left started to disappear.

Used to be trailer parks but for the most part those have cleaned up. Some small rural towns had some rough parts but money moved in and meth addicts forced out.

Local city has a lot of Somalis but they're mostly dispersed and just wander around like lost dogs looking to steal scraps

Kansas City KS still has the West Bottoms. Pretty tame today. 40 years ago it was the wild west.

Yes the West Bottoms is pretty mellow these days.
The city is trying to restore and preserve the buildings, bring in small businesses and make apartments in the buildings that are left.

That said. KCKS still has good ol Quindaro (sp).
It doesn't matter what color you are. If you're not from there, you're not welcome there.

Might be a few Iowans on here that are familiar with the flats in Fort Dodge.

"Hells half acre" is the name of the rough parts around here.
