Went on a solo brook trout fishing trip last Thursday to a remote lake in the Adirondack Park. The trailhead parking lot was on a remote lonely stretch of highway near Piseco Lake where there are no residences in either direction for more than 10 miles. I arrived at the parking lot at daylight and was surprised to find a family type van already at the lot. The strange thing was, the vans headlights , interior lights were on, plus the drivers side door was open, and there was not anyone around. It took me about 10 minutes to get all my gear together to start the hour or so hike into the lake. As I walked by the van to the trailhead I peered into the vehicle, and did not see anyone inside of it. So I figured the owner must be up in the woods taking a dump.

I signed the trail register, and noticed no one had signed in since the previous Saturday. Anyway after arriving to the lake, I had been fishing for about 30-45 minutes. When 2 other fishermen arrived at the lake in 1 canoe. I asked them if the van was theirs ? They said , no, and that the van door was open, and they closed it. I then told them, that it was open when I arrived at daylight the headlights were also on, and I too thought to close it but then decided not to mess with it. They replied that they thought the same, owner maybe taking a dump somewhere.

I fished until about 3 PM until the wind picked up and I could not control my trolling speed. The other 2 fishermen headed out before me and when I returned to the parking lot, only my vehicle remained.

Since the other fishermen must have arrived at the parking area at least a half hour after me, and the van was still unattended with the door open. I thought it very strange, someone would park in a remote section of the 6 million acre + Adirondack Park and leave there vehicle door open and unattended for over a half hour. Especially since there have been cases where vehicles parked at many remote trailhead parking lots in the Adks have been broken into.

If they were taking a dump it must have been a big one ? After telling this story to a friend, he said, guy was probably dumping a body and you came along and he had to wait you out. LOL

P.S. i did catch 2 Brook trout, both a bit over 15”.
