There isn't a good one I've found in Alaska, used to be an elderly gent up Palmer way who had a roadside trailer in the tourist season. He's since passed away. Growing up, I would drive an hour through Blackwater Forest up to East Brewton, AL, to Hog Heaven BBQ, had the best brisket and sauce I've ever ate, but the last time I was down there, it had closed. My favorite BBQ chicken is Miss Myra's, Birmingham, AL. Whenever I preach in churches around there, I always stop in. On my last trip in the Lower 48, J. D.'s Smokehouse, Rutherfords College, NC, was really good brisket and sauce.

Yes Steven 49er, roadside stands are more often than not better than the established restaurant down the road. Now that I am older, not in so much a hurry, I travel State highways whenever possible, and stop at whichever place smells the best.

I've driven down there just to get a gallon jug of sauce and of course some smoked brisket and sausage and their BBQ yam is heavenly ! As is all of their sides that they have to offer !

Every third winter, we go to the Lower 48 to report to supporting churches, visit family, get serious medical and dentist work done. This past winter, I preached in 21 different states, traveled through a few more. Wish I would've thought of this then. I hate eating at a restaurant that's disappointing.
