There was a post on Iowa Trapper Talk back in December that seemed to confirm that he was still living. Sounds like he's not trapping as hard as he used to. I see that Mr Plueger hasn't been on here for a few years.

If I recall he had an axe to grind with somebody. Was it NAFA maybe?

He sure piled up the coon.
His fur was real nicely handled too.
He sold exclusively to GFW if I remember correctly
I think he piled up the mink too.

Dave was a hard worker and driven. He put up some exceptional catches over the years.

Yep, we all figured he was getting preferential treatment from GFW for us speaking well of them....kind of like Boco with FHA. LOL

Good fur handling pays well.

You need to look at how you are setting-all those bites are post mortem.
Could have been a 90 dollar beaver there if you had got him well under water and away from your lure.
My condolences on your financial loss.
Good fur handling starts with the set.

True all of that...but if you set enough 330's you will always have a few that don't do what they're supposed to and expose themselves to post mortem abuse. This one was from 2023 and with hatter prices leading the way I didn't lose any value.

Boco, BP deals with the same tidal issues as me. Sometimes even if you put them on ample cable the tide will leave them exposed. The cost of trapping tidal. I only had a couple this year that wound up exposed.

Yea I guess that would do it.
Like water dropping in late spring.Unpredictable hard to anticipate those occasional large drop sometimes.
BP did a fine job of putting up that beaver all the same.

I tried a couple fat coon carcasses for bait one time in late winter when animals are desperate-nothing touched them, even the ravens wernt interested.

I'm pretty sure he was the one who made that two minute fleshing coon video, wasn't he?
I learned a lot about fleshing coon from that video. He did a nice job.

You know you're old when you walk past a rest room and think, as long as I'm here........

Peeler and I both trap rivers prone to extreme level fluctuations from either tide or seasonal flooding. Several years ago I set a foot trap at the rivers edge with a 20 foot drowner cable. 48 hours later I found the dead beaver at the end of the cable and 20 feet from water!!! Water dropped about 16 feet in two days!

Boco it's the other white meat down south. At first, we were hauling about 500 carcasses down south. I was making a $5.00 profit. Then they wanted over a 1000 then I hired a trucking firm to pick up the carcasses and haul them down south. I was storing all my coon carcasses In NAFAs walk in freezers. They were stored in those water melon boxes.
Then they wanted more and sooner so it was hard to come up with those numbers so I gave it up.
My buyer was getting around $20.00 for a good size coon. I tried selling them off the back of my truck. But it took too much time away from the trap line. And the areas I was selling in were a bit sketchy.

Had a buddy that sold meat to a grocery store in Milwaukee. He parked at the dock, went in to register came out five minutes later only to see a couple kids running down the alley with 2 in each hand. Them things are the bomb in some neighborhoods.
