Buddy dropped these off wanting me to clean up these skulls fir skull mount. Boiled for couple hours and removed the nasty part. He had caped them out and I asked him what he did with the small bone atop the nostrils. He had a blank look. So peroxide paste tonight. Then horn touch up and be finished

Took away some of the natural antler staining by letting the antlers submerge in the boiling water.

No that's were he had them hanging in a tree outside since November. Plus the fat / brain matter had a slime line on top. I haven't wiped them down yet. Patience uncle swamp. Not my first set. Brown shoe polish and matte sealer will fix all that.

Your antlers my friend....not mine, but it appears the antlers are under boiling water.

I've had bone crack in boiling water, so these days it's a high simmer just this side of a boil.

Antlers where bleached out from so much sun and hot weather. We hadn’t had rain in 7 weeks. Let me get them finished then we’ll see if I did it wrong or not Lol
Probably the 50-60 set I’ve done this same way. Added missing points. Stained them to match pictures I’ve seen. I’m sure they won’t be up to someone’s standard but since I don’t charge I bet both guys will be tickled with them.
Guess I should’ve buried them in a chicken coop and waited 6 months for the worms to eat them. About a week turn around only because I’m going out of town tomorrow

I have done close to 1000 over the years and continue to learn something new. For the whitening process I use dollar tree hydrogen peroxide 16oz. I use 5 bottles of that in a pot then fill the rest up with water so that the skull is submerge to the base of the antler. I bring that to a boil for 15 minutes then reduce the heat to a simmer for 30 minutes. Then pull skull out and rinse off with hot tap water. I also wrap the bases of the antlers with foil or suran wrap as tightly as possible to keep the peroxide the as much as possible. Let them dry for 3 or 4 days then I bush the entire skull with mop and glow. I will get you more information on the antler coloration later. I wouldn't worry about the critics

Thanks Capt.scott. I use a crock pot for cleaning. Then 40v peroxide paste then wrapped in a plastic bag for a few days. They come out white, but nothing like the “white” when a good taxi does it.
I’ll try the peroxide in a pot and heating for a bit.

Not criticizing.

Just never seen anyone (that cared about the original, natural antler color) submerge the antlers in the boiling/simmering water.
